Hello,

I am just curious which Apple computer do you use for edting and post production.
If Macbook Pro is enough for smooth editing or if only Mac Pro is enough powerful etc.

Thank you

I want to buy Scarlet X. So 4K R3D in 30fps. But I am also curious what machine is enough for 5K 100fps from Epic.

Bob, do you think for the $5-6K for a new MBPr and a used RR+TB Chassis, you could get a new Mac Pro that performs about the same or better?

I'm curious for my own needs as well.

I now use my 2013 macPro without any red rocket card. It the 8 core dual d700, 64gb ram. Also, this smaller machine can be easily taken on set if need be. For me it's more practical than the Mac laptop.

That's the same configuration I'm looking at right now. Glad to hear it's powerful enough to get your work done!

Have you tried connecting your MacBook Pro to your nMP to use it as your screen and controls for the Mac Pro? I've heard there are ways to do that, and it would really make the new tower that much more portable.

BTW, Philip Bloom is really liking this monitor for on the go.

End of last year I have purchased the most recent iMac with all the top specs - including the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M with 4GB of graphic memory.
To say that this thing flies is an understatement. I also own a Scarlet and this machine is simply a perfect match.
I use primarily FCP-X for editing, DaVinci for grading and Nuke for VFX/compositing.
I also use on a regular basis the Adobe Master Collection CS6.
The iMac performs like a beauty with all the above software and I do push it hard every single day (don't remember last time I have powered down the system)...

IMHO - the iMac is currently the best value workstation for the "one-man-band" owner/operator...

Was thinking of that config. Does yours have flash memory or HDD or fusion drive?

Opted for the flash memory - the 250GB model. Use it only for OS and the SW. All media sits on external USB3 RAID enclosure and backed up on bare HDDs.
Using the BMD's UltraStudio Mini Monitor for video preview on a calibrated HD monitor.
Scopes on a external USB monitor when needed for grading - but planing to get the BMD's SmartScope Duo 4K for this purpose...
And about to add a 4K display to extend the desktop and to serve as display for the REDRAY. Still not sure whether to go for a display or a projector...

Thanks. I am glad to hear that iMac is a perfect match for the Scarlet.
