  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What Am I Doing Wrong?

Traditionally, dedicated hardware is used at the leading edge of technology when dedicated hardware is really the only way to get things done.
i agree.

I believe that the RED curve is so fast that by the time a dedicated hardware box was built, tested, and ready - it would be long-obsolete.
here i disagree - there are multistream 4K realtime digital intermediate systems available which do colorcorrection, blur, dissolves, superimposes all without a second of render - since some time. dvs is making such products since over 25 years now, and i heared the "dedicated harware is obsolete" since 1989 regarding their products when the first uncompressed sdi SD options became available at silicon graphics. Houndreds of clipsters buyers might disagree.

systems which use a pc and only a nvidia graphics card as replacement for dedicated hardware as speedgrade or scratch are still some years away from that level of performance.

If i dare a predicition - For 4k uncompressed with ATI or nvidia graphics card it might be possible to reach the performance of a 2007 clipster somewhere in 2009/10, that would be multistream realtime 4k with 3D and FX & colorcorrection in final quality.

I started to get buggy QT's when installing more RAM and disks in my 8-core...

I'm in leopard, of course.

A re-install seems to have fixed it, though.

edit:

Read the whole thread.
SIlly question:
You sure that you're project- and export settings are right?
Have you tried saving snapshot tiffs?

Oddly, the preview of a tsnapshot looked like crazy for me (in finder) but opened and looked great in photoshop.

Just an idea...

Harry, adding coders won't and doesn't help. The more people on a project, the slower it goes. It takes time to get new people up to speed, you spend more time in meetings than working, etc. etc. And I can assure you that Scarlet is not using resources that slow us down on RedOne.

OK,
I guess that was a bit of a rant.
I just want this part of the system to be BETTER.
H.

So do we Harry! We're all working hard on the software to improve it, fix bug, add functionality and keep up with the features being put in RED One.

I've had better luck now getting RC to export @ standard process, but full absolutely does not work on my 3ghz 8 core Mac Pro, 16G RAM, Quadro FX 4500, OSX 10.5.1, QT 7.3.1 system.

I've been able to get some shots out at full process with the other system, (Quad core Mac Pro, 3G RAM, X1900 XT, OSX 10.4.11, QT 7.3.1) but with only a few in the library.

Suggestions?

I didn't say that dedicated hardware was bad or wrong, I said that the RED curve was so fast that a "dedicated hardware box was tested and ready, it would be obsolete." And I believe that is true. If someone started building a dedicated hardware box for RED decoding, it would be obsolete by the time it was ready.

Not really. The new 4600/5600 generation allows realtime 4K right now. Actually, the 4500 did as well, but it was right on the bleeding edge of what it could do, and it was very unstable. But 4K Uncompressed on a 4600 and SCRATCH works just fine.

Laguun... come on man... A Clipster is only able to support dual 4K with *two* Cine4K servers, tied together with external synchronization. And a single Clipster cannot handle anything above a single stream of 4K internally. A trigger can be sent to a single Cine4K server for playback, but that is daisy-chained to the other Cine4K. So - a single Clipster can't really support multi-stream 4K. I don't think that's a big deal since nobody (except maybe you : ) ) is trying to do multistream 4K. But to be precise, a single Clipster cannot do multistream 4K color correction, effects, or internal playback.

Just wanted to add myself to the list of people frustrated by the problematic postpro workflow because of the "betaness" of RED Cine. :(
