I live in Decatur, IL and as I speak, Mr. Steven Soderbergh and crew are out and about shooting for an upcoming movie called The Informant.

The crew is shooting with four or five Red Ones. The only one I caught a glimpse of with a name was 'Houston.'

Attached is a photo of one of the cameras. My question to you all is.. what are the accessories placed atop the camera just behind the matte box/french flag. They look like focus sensors or antennas. Any ideas?

That makes perfect sense. I was standing almost directly behind Mr. Soderbergh during the shot of a scene and noticed distances changing on the LED readout. I wasn't close enough to read the descriptions for the numbers.

I did notice they were also measuring focus distances with actual tape. Wonder why.

The Cine Tape is Extremely useful, as is the Panatape and Ward Sniper Unit.

The Leica Disto and other laser rangefinders are good, but the above units can be calibrated to the focal plane and give a real time readout of from either their sonar tubes (cinetape and panatape) or laser (sniper).

Can any one tell me the accuracy of these units? Has anyone experience with other units (please no lasers) What is the smallest type available?
