So here is a another small yet I think important question to my fellow redusers that have been very helpful with all my questions.

My question is that would it help to bring the contrast in camera setting up for the noise? Or would it help for anything else,

Better question is that what settings are the best for Saturation, Contrast, Brightness.

Any help or suggestions will be great.

FWIW Moderator Evin Grant recently posted HIS settings, which I have shamelessly copied (to the extent I can find these in the set up menu)
Saturation: +1.1
FLUT: -0.1
TINT (which I cannot find in my Side-handle driven menu system): -3

He was pretty buzzed about the Look this created...

Since it's all metadata...it's all up to personal preference. None of the color/contrast settings actually change anything except what you see while filming. The reason you have visible noise is because no red camera does any noise reduction in camera, invest in a good noise reduction plugin like Neat Video. Also, exposing correctly on red cameras is extremely important, 9 out of 10 time the image will look noisy because you need more light.

So basically none of the changes makes any difference in red cine x? If thats the case camera settings should not matter and that take cares of my question.

thank you

Jan,

Your files will open in Redcine-x with whatever settings you shot them with, but due to the nature of RAW all of those setting are nothing but metadata, and can be twisted every which way in post. The main use for changing in camera settings is for a client/director monitor so they can see something besides completely flat log footage. Personally, I shoot in RedColor3/Gamma3, then grade in redcolor2/redlogfilm on Redcine-x/premiere.

Stu, I din't see this post, but do you think maybe Evin was suggesting a Look be created and saved out of RedcineX Pro then imported into the camera?

That's a pretty nice look. If you still can't find the TINT function, it's pretty easy actually with side handle, just highlight your color temp setting (i.e: 5600k on the top menu bar) and press the up button on your side handle, this will open the detailed options panel and tint is in there

Yes, that works for all the basic image controls. See the "Save Current Look for Epic/Scarlet" option in the File menu of REDCINE-X PRO

The question is though, was this for Redcolor2/Redgamma2 viewing? The reason I'm assuming it's for 2 is saturation was a bit low with Redcolor2.
The color science changed significantly for Reddcolor3/Redgamma3 so the settings above may not be ideal.

Evin's settings were for RC3/RG3-

And these were IN CAMERA settings...though as RED-ROB sez, looks like you can create and import same from RCX....
None of this necessarily addressed the OP's noise Qs, mind you...

I wonder if we will ever get the ability to have one colour setting out the SDI, and another one recorded to card.

I think that doesn't matter, because its raw, so any setting is as good as the other - you can change it in post anytime.
