Hi,

I have just installed 3 of these in a 8 core MacPro internal bays.
Funny thing happened, one of them suddenly droped out and went away. After a reboot it was there again.

Anyone else runnng these inside a MacPro?
Any problem with the BIOS or?

Cheers

I've been hearing rumblings of a lot of failures on these. But haven't worked with one yet myself. If you have that drive drop out again, I would suggest replacing it.

It could be a driver issue if it's un-mounting on its own or it could be early drive failure. What is the S.M.A.R.T status (bottom of the Disk Utility window) when you click on the volume? Some drives are not compatible with this SMART utility. This status can sometimes give you an early drive failure detection.

For what it's worth, I have had bad luck with the FireWire enclosed WD drives, the ones where there are two drives hardware RAID'ed together in a FW case, the WD MyBook series. I have never seen hardware raided internal drives, is it possible these drives are actually made of two separate disks in one enclosure? I would stay away from that kind of drive, IMO.

SMART is ok.
Very strange. The Mac took very long booting, and I removed the side panel and started listening at the drives. Then I could hear the familiar sound of a drive that try to spin up but have to low voltage. Dam! I thought, is the PSU to weak?

Then I just did a desparate swap and change place with two of the drives, hoping it was just a bad conection on the sata and power connectors. And it WORKED!!

Now is all running good. probably a bad drive connector, but now it's working and I won't touch it ever again! :)

Apparently the drive can change spinn speed from 5000 to 7000 as it feel like it. By looking at the data speed from one drive, it varies from 50MB/s to 105MB/s quit allot

Cheers
