Hi everybody,

I'm about to pull the trigger on a few Westcott Flex panels . For those who own them already :

I've heard a report of the units humming at some point, have you experienced it?

I also saw that some user report that the unit doesn't do true 5500k but is warmer?

For those who owned it longer : how tough is the dimmer, looks a little plastic ?

I am still hesitating between those and the Litemats.

Thank you in advance!

I have two of the original 10x10 units.

Zero hum. I think it's a bit warmer than 5500k. If so, not by much. I prefer warmer to cooler personally. The color rendition has been good. No complaints.

The dimmer is plastic! My only complaint about the lights is the cabling/power/dimmer situation. It's very wonky and hard to keep organized.

On a side note, Westcott's customer service is absolutely fantastic. I had a dimmer switch fail and my customer service rep was very helpful and friendly. I had a new switch in the mail in about a week at zero charge to me. They were also very quick and clear with their email communication. For me, that's huge and I'll be sure to keep additional Westcott products in mind because of this!

Ive been using the aladdin version since they came out. Solid product. Their Battery/dimmer solution is so far ahead of westcotts....aluminum construction and ability to make fine adjustments for kelvin and power output. Have never heard any humming...and my super obnoxious sound guy has yet to curse me for this light.....yet http://www.aladdinlightingusa.com/products/bi-flex I can post some pics of the controller in use later if you want

Use an original 10x10 all the time. No buzzing. Great light, I stuff it in a go-sack. Great for run and gun because it clips to anything if you need a quick setup. Also have the ptap plug to run off of vmounts.

Got the 10 x 10 and no buzzing. Had one bad dimmer and Westcott swapped it out within a week. Great customer service. The 10 x 10 has the same punch as their 12 x 12. I use them with Impact Quickboxes.

I have a pair of the 1x2 bi-color cine's, and I tested out the 10x10 daylight-only and returned it. I'll try and dig up my test footage if you guys are interested, but basically I found (and this is IIRC, so I may be a bit off):

- The color at full-daylight (6000 on the dimmer I think) is really more like 5500.
- The color at full tungsten is almost spot-on
- The color of the 10x10 daylight-only is more like 4900
- Compared to the 10x10 daylight-only, the colors are richer. Not sure if this is b/c it's a newer generation of LED, or b/c it's the daylight-only LED vs. the Bi-Color
- Comparing them at B&H (NB I didn't have my light meter, just by eye), the Bi-color at full daylight looks just as bright as the daylight-only at 100%. Not sure how this is possible, but it definitely looked that way.
- Compared to my Kino Diva with 56k lamps, the 1x2 Bi-Color cine is 2/3 stop brighter, and the colors are almost identical. My face had just a touch more redness in the shot with the Kino. But it was close enough that you couldn't really say which one was more "accurate."

All in all, I decided they were an improvement over my Diva, and now I can fit two 1x2's plus stands, softbox, and a reflector all in my Diva 400 case.

No buzzing on any of them, and the dimmers seem pretty sturdy to me.

I have 2x flex daylights for sale in box. $850/each. Email me if interested. Just.love.film@gmail. - - com

2x Icelights $390 each

4x dedo high output bicolor felloni 1x1 2x 30 degree 2x 50 degree. $850 each.

All the best!

I am late but it appears that the Wescott FLEX LEDs are a must. I guess I need to pull the trigger. I posted a thread today inquiring about a good set of LED's

With all of the new options out there, you might want to also check the recent announcements from NAB. Nothing wrong with the FLEX LEDs, other than the hassle of putting them together, especially if you're using AC power. There are literally seven different bits you have for each light and it becomes rather onerous to assemble. On that account, I much preferred the Kino Celeb with its single cord.

I bought four on this group buy, and have sold two. They're VERY compact, not counting the cords et al. Strong light for its size and very useful.
