Ok, so in the recent "MEET FELIX" thread I was encouraged to see enthusiasm for the Scarlet. I noticed many people with less than 5-10 posts on this forum who have just recently joined due to the Scarlet .R3D file. I want to say "Welcome" and I'm so glad you have chosen to participate in this little community which has kinda grown into a family for me.

Stay here long enough, and you will make great friendships like I have with people like Zac Crosby, KETCH ROSSI, Peter Mosiman, Tony Augustinack, Jared Caldwell and Steve Sherrick to name a few of the many.

I hope you find as warm of welcome as I have over the past 3 years (minus 17 days). :)

As for the people that have been here for awile, I like it that we have not been so quick to pounce on the "newbie" when one might ask what seems to be a "no-brainer" within the RED nomenclature and I encourage you to continue doing the same. Just remember everyone starts somewhere...I did!

WELCOME!

We all know what it is like to be new at this (we all were at some point)... and the intimidation one can feel stepping in with those more experienced than we are. I still get that feeling when I hang around some of the legends in the industry. It amazes me every day what I don't know. You want to learn but you don't want to look dumb or be embarrassed.

I'll echo Joseph's sentiment. Let's do our best to embrace the "new guy". I have seen and been inspired by top dogs willing to share their knowledge to those who are anxious to learn and less experienced. We could certainly use those guys as our examples. David Mullen quickly comes to mind. He is patient and overly generous with his time and expertise here on REDuser. When in doubt how to respond to a "newbie"... start with remembering your 1st contact when starting down this road and how you wanted to be treated.

Easy to understand, sometimes difficult to remember.

Jim

Welcome indeed! This forum is home to a really wonderful community and is host to vast amounts of information about RED and RED cameras, surely, but also filmmaking and production in general.

As the saying goes "The only bad questions are those not asked". So be vocal and participate. The more you do, the more you'll learn and - chances are - the more others who remain silent but harbor the same curiosities will learn as well.

Without reduser I would still be fighting to get into a film career, still working on getting to NAB at some point, and not have at least 3 very close friends...

Though without reduser, I'd also probably leave the house somedays... So as with Zakaree, "welcome to your new addiction"

Well said Joseph ;)

I will never tire to say "WELCOME" to any one that arrives at place for the first time.

Funny thing is that even so I never said "WELCOME" in the way I always fantasized as a child, were I would say "WELCOME TO EARTH"
to a visiting Alien , but rather I was the one been said "WELCOME" every time I visited a new Country, or more recently, when I Joined a New Forum ;)

I take pleasure in turn, to "WELCOME" others that come after me, and reserve the same
assistance and politeness to them as I had received, and wish to receive for my self when in a place were I'm the "NEWBE" ;)

Could you add Gal to that too. ;)

I know that there aren't that many girls on forums like this...big boys with their toys and all that jazz.

you are very sweet Joseph. And of Course to Jim and all the others.

It is rather daunting but to be fair the photography industry is not so bad with female photographers. The film industry is terrible, the tv industry is also pretty bad on the techy side. I worked in post production at a corporate post facility and some independent ones. Most were full of guys who whole heartedly believed women should not be touching this stuff. I held my own and put on a bitch face.

But anyway everyone has been courteous and kind so far. But I have been peeping for a few years as my other half (Tim Hole) is a constant Reduser/Scaletuser. So I kick off from time to time.

Thanks again for the kind words everyone.

I completely understand you Debbie in your statements, and unfortunately I can attest that you speak the truth, but never have I made a
Female employee, college and or collaborator, fill less wordy then any Male employee, college and or collaborator, I give both the same exact
values of Respect and value them for their Professionalism and capacity and not for the Sex (hope this word those not come out wrong)
meaning I don't care if they are Male or Female, I just care for them to be Professional and good at what they do and give me 100%.

So I hope that in your carrier you will encounter more of those Like me then like those that you or your Female Colleagues have encounter.

Debbie, you inspired me to start a new thread. Help us kick it off with a hello.

Thanks Ketch. Its always nice to know there are considerate people out there.

I think generationally we are passing the sexist issue. Slowly. I might get some funny looks if I am man-handling a hand-held RED. No easiest of tasks for me I assure you. I have a lot of support from the people that I care about, the rest can take a long jump off a short cliff. I couldn't care less. On the other hand I am a girl. I'm not trying to be a man. I like girly things, but I also like to Rock a RED whenever possible.

I think though a lot of girls give up quickly at the beginning of the path into film just because they aren't strong enough characters to really push their way in.
