  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Weird Red Dots? Anybody know what this is?

Off topic but just wondering, anyone has any idea why RED's olpf is red as opposed to most other digital cameras which is green?

It depends on Red's implementation of Optical Low Pass Filter - probably it's a different colour because they've chosen a different balance of parameters and possibly materials than other manufacturers.

I believe they also moved it further forward from the sensor than is typical to reduce the sharpness of the above artifact as well as to reduce visibility of any dust or marks on the OLPF.

Also, not quite sure whether the InfraRed filter is incorporated in the sensor or the OLPF, and whether that has a colour associated with it.

I wondered if it was a design tradeoff as they have a pretty chunky rectangular framed Gimbal mount for pitch and yaw of the sensor (which is a good thing), and mechanics for moving the mounted sensor in Z for back focus adjustment. I am wondering if future designs will have the IR filter closer to the sensor?

Cheers,

Eric
