I got my EVF last week and since we are in the middle of a feature production here in Thailand (I'll post more about that later) I didn't have much change of looking through it myself. The DOP however was reporting a strange behavior and today I saw it myself too.
The thing is, whenever there are a lot of white areas in the frame, every bright area suddenly drops in luminance and turns gray or blueish gray. For instance when you do a pan with a overexposed sky, when the portion of sky in the frame is large enough, the sky and every other white area in the viewfinder drops in luminance, INCLUDING the menus and borders around the frame. Nothing changes on the LCD.
Is this a bug in the viewfinder firmware? Or is my EVF defective? Anybody else experiencing this?
