  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dear Reduser community,

So I am trying to work with this new Final Cut X, mainly to avoid Proxies and relinking like most people. I have a 13'' Retina Display MBP, and playback is not perfect, but smooth enough. The problem is that I am getting a really annoying blue noise on my footage, it only shows up when I pause, when playback is gone.

The REAL problem is that it also shows up when I exported the video ! But this time not only when paused, but all the time... I seem to have everything up to date. Any help and I will be your friend forever. Still attached.

Thanks in advanced, Marcos.

Ok, they're the clues to help us get to the bottom of this. Thanks,

Graeme

Did you get this resolved Marcos? Please let us know the outcome.

I am also having this problem, except the noise is green. I figured out that if I revert all of the media back to the original camera settings it goes away. Once I make a change to it all of the noise returns.

One temporary fix that we've found within FCPX (and this may help you discover where the issue lies):

The problem seems to go away when we modify the RED RAW settings of the .R3D clips within FCPX and change the "RED gamma 3" to the original "RED gamma".

That fix sort of worked. It took away all the noise, but it all returns if I touch the shadow or contrast settings. I seem to be able to adjust everything else within FCPX except those two. I am going to try a Mac with a different GPU hoping that maybe that is where the problem is.

Is there anyone else having this problem? Has anyone found a solution? I bought a fully maxed out macbook air for minor adjustments while "out in the field", but it is totally useless because all of the green and blue noise once any of the raw settings are changed.

Same problem here…

we don't have a red... yet... but... that's the workflow we'll be using.. so i'm interested to see if there is a solution to this... I do have some questions though in terms of your setups.. someone said they were using a macbook air in the field and they were getting that blue noise...

what machines are you guys using? obviously mac's... but.. are any of you using a red rocket card?

if not... i would first assume that it's a video card issue... are there any known compatibility issues with the red codec and certain video cards? A few mac towers ago, we had one heck of a time getting my machine to playback pro res video clearly... it seriously looked like it was compressed at a data rate of about 4 bits per second.... bad bad stuff...... but.. it turns out the video card was lame......

not saying that's a solution to the problem.. but... i'd be really interested to see if everyone having this problem has the same manufacturers video card...

Would like to know if the original poster Marcos solved his problem.

I agree that it might be a graphic card issue. I updated to the current version of FCPX. It still happens on my Macbook air that is using the intel HD4000. I tried it on a Mac mini (same version of FCPX) with an AMD graphic card and there was no issue. To cut down on variables I put the project and r3d files all on a external drive to switch between computers. Anyone else that is having this problem using a different graphic card?

That is pretty bizarre. Carey's frame also contains purple. It reminds me of a false color overlay.

Issue presents itself in FCPX 10.0.6 & 10.0.9 under 10.8.3 on rMBP (i7 2.7GHz) with Nvidia GPU either enabled or disabled. R3D's are from the 3.x EPIC firmware series. All files are fine in any other software. This bug has specific relation to FCPX.
