  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Weight of Camera

Probably not too much, as the Red One is like 4 times the size and 20 pounds....
So Scarlet could be 5 to 10 lbs maybe even lighter!
Anyways....Hoping fto get enough to afford this by Nov 3rd!!

I would think 3-5 lbs myself, that is the weight of a Pro (still) camera body and I would suspect the scarlet to weight around the same. That said I'm not including the batteries, monitor, or a fixed lens which could easily add a few more lbs and end up being in your range.

Weights (Body only)

Red One: 10 lbs
Epic: 5 lbs
Scarlet: TBD but based on Epic probably same or less

I'm not sure if Joseph can chime in here, but he might be the best to ask. Him and Ketch seem to have handled it the most. I think I remembered reading Joseph was in Europe so we may not here from him. I'd guess 5-6 lbs. If interchangeable take a lb or 2 away perhaps?

I head a dummy mock up of the fixed at NAB but it did not feel like it was a good representative of what a real one would weight.

Awhile back I started taking fairly detailed notes about Scarlet from information gleaned here on REDuser. I went back through my notes and found this: "...as of about 5/20/10, the weight of the fixed lens Scarlet was revealed to be around 4.5 lbs"

I guess a ready to shoot Scarlet with a side handle, battery and media would be around 6 Lbs. As Terry points out, the Scarlet body (w/ lens) was last reported to be 4.5 Lbs.

Of course, come Nov 3rd, Scarlet could be something different.

I'm thinking they may incorporate the new Epic-style heat sink into the Scarlet which could lead to an almost half pound reduction, I would assume. I'm curious if that heat sink is ceramic.
