im still thinking about which path i should go with? Carbon Weapon or MG.
Honestly i dont need prores at all,my partner who is director/editor %100 on Avid so im gonna convert all footage to avid.
My mind says if i go with MG which is fine but i dont want my camera losing %50 worth while upgrading to 8K sensor.
Do you guys remember Red Dragon Carbon prices and now its worth half of it in upgrade process.Red said Carbon owners gonna be top list customers always, now everybody can be top list customer if you choose Weapon Carbon.and you losing %50 worth of camera while doing it.
i can not foresee the future about this upgrades. Its like gambling and you never know whats gonna happen tomorrow.May 15th was last day for 8K updrades $ 10K price but do you guys think it ll open up again end of this summer from same price?
Please enlighten me about why should i go with Carbon or Magnesium?
Btw im loving my dragon so much only reason i want to upgrade is i dont wanna be obselete in this red ecosystem.

You need to understand that the premium price paid for for Epic-M, Carbon Epic, and Epic Carbon Dragon was a way for people who needed to purchase a camera immediately to do so.
General availability for the purchase of Epic cameras normally commenced only after current owners Red one owners had taken delivery of their epic. There was no difference in performance or function, but purchasers were given longer factory warrantees and preferential positions for the next upgrade cycle.

Now with Weapon, the the Carbon and Magnesium models actually delineate significant performance differences. ( I guess in car terms it would like choosing between model with a 600 Horsepower V-8 engine vs. an 800 Horsepower V-12)

You need to decide what you are actually going to do with the camera (Are you going to be shooting on 8K?, do you need 4K Prores?) and choose the model that best fits your needs. And don't forget that Epic Dragon and Scarlet Dragon are still in the line-up ready to go.

Kemalettin, If you are satisfied with how your current Dragon performs, I'd say go with Mg Weapon if you just want to stay current in the upgrade path. In my mind, 8k is the only reason to go CF at this time.

And if RED can make a big enough "group buy" for 8k sensors in a year or so, I for one (as a CF 8k depositor) would not be put out if that lower price was offered to future upgraders to 8k, even though RED has said the price will double if you didn't buy early.

On the other hand, Jarred has said many times the upgrade path for Dragons is not EOL, so doing nothing may be another option. '-)
