  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Weapon REDVOLT Expander ( Updated )

Percentage and REDVOLTs, in my experience that's just one part of the story. While i see fluctuations and have sporadic problems with my quadcharger, i have to say the runtimes of my REDVOLTs and XLs are still within their specs.

I guess there is some software running in those batteries to communicate with the camera, which might even learn during the first cycles? How else would you explain that a 8x% redvolt and a 98% redvolt gave me nearly identical amount of minutes? ;)

Love these things, great formfactor and design overall. Would love to see REDVOLT², new cells, more consistent results and USB-C for charging (and software-updates) on the batteries itself. ...oh and a SH with REDVOLT-slot for WEAPON/RAVEN. :P

Agreed that a redvolt2 with better cell and software needs to come out....or....open up the option to have third parties make some redvolt for them... ;)

I'd buy many redvolt2 if they were more reliable and lasted longer. I too love the form factor and light weight. Just hate that they don't last long but worse that they degrade and have poor power retention so quickly after initial use. I should get 1000 cycles or more before they start losing 5% of the fully charge. Yes, get the folks from Sony to build batteries. Never had issues with their cells (albeit sure it's different technology). +1 on redvolt2 (that work with current redvolt modules!!!).

Exactly my point!

SYNC PORT missing

SYNC PORT missing

No Sync port on this?
I just did a job where we had this on one Weapon and the Base Expander on the other. We couldn't trigger the camera with the RedVolt Expander because it need different cables for timecode and run/stop. Kind of a bummer. We had a Preston FIZ which has cables that plug into the Sync port on the Base Expander. Same for the timecode. It would have been ideal to have this port on this module... and the one and only reason I haven't purchased one. I love modules, and the idea of swapping them out when you need more ports... but why make the ports DIFFERENT, and you need a whole new set of cables (and backups) to do the same task. Something to address in the new body (after 2020?). Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Red.... this is just a bit of user input for reference. Love the hot-swap ability of having a revolt in the module.

I love my Redvolt Expander and it has lived on the camera since I bought it. Finally I can use the camera handheld and balanced on my shoulder without all the rig palava. BUT when running a Red Brick Batttery at the back and I insert a Redvolt battery I loose the battery status readouts and it defaults to voltage only? Take out the Redvolt and the status returns. If I run REdvolt battery only the power status readout is all good but together with the Brick not so good. The Redvolts make great puffer batteries but the loss of battery status is painful. Is this everybody else's experience or unique to my set up?

What am I missing? I can only find "HDSDI" in the settings, no way to access the SDI 1 and 2 ports individually like I could with the Pro I/O? Any info much appreciated.

In case it might be of interest for anybody else, I just got info from Red support: The two SDI ports cannot be addressed individually and always carry the same signal. That´s odd but I guess it´s as good as it gets. Cheers!
