  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Weapon gyro data for stabilization?

But as Christopher noted the gyro data itself does not seem to be accurate enough in-camera yet to do any real stabilisation ...

Mikael, did you have something cooking for processing gyro data? What if you could tailor that to the recording of gyro data on an Iphone as Björn mentioned. I looked at the software he linked to and it records tons of different data, even gravity. I'm gonna try putting my old Iphone as a specialized remote on the camera using a car gps holder, so it could get charged by the camera battery, but having it on the camera also makes it possible to record gyro data. Then I would only need some software that could make use of the data and create a timeline in like AE in where I can synch it up with the R3D.

Wouldn't it better if the camera just worked like it was suppose to?

If more people file support tickets complaining that the gyro is currently broken and unusable, maybe they will put some effort into fixing it.

It would be extremely useful for many applications if it actually worked

Heh Heh your gonna love the next build... :)
Which.. btw.. is also the first build where we turn on the Gyro and Accelerometers that have been sitting in the camera patiently waiting :)

all the gyro and accelerometer data gets dumped into frame accurate metadata... stabilize at will.

Didn't remember that post. It would be nice if we could hear something about this from Red. Why do we even have the gyro and accelerometer in camera if there's no use for them? Just imagine a slider in Redcine or source settings when editing that says "Stabilize" and you just slide it to either perfect smooth stabilization or less.

This is a great thread that I hope keeps traction... It's always been an aspect that has never really been touched on that would only push RED that much further ahead of the pack. It's such a great thing that we could all use, I'm really hoping something comes of this data. The ability to throw this into 3D for smaller shops that dont have an integration department is a huge plus.

+1 million for an RCX slider for stabilization!!!!!

Post stabilizing is such an essential tool these days. RED would put itself in a great position moving forward if you could get that info (perfectly/accurately) right off the sensor!!!!!
