Like many, I was up the night before NAB reading all of REDs announcements and placing my order. I thought I would start a new thread to pass the time while we all wait for our 8K upgrade. This is obviously not an official list and not everyone will participate. I will do my best to keep the list up-to-date. Will try and keep all times as PST.

8K Weapon- We are still going to ship the first batch of 8K Weapons out to the wild in 2015.. and then there will be a gap as we build up the next batch of sensors . Each batch is gonna take a few months....

If you don't already know, I wouldn't be waiting by the chimney. We aren't going down the list cherry picking favorites for the 8k, but we are supporting one big show like we always do when we have a new camera.

8K is a waiting game. I gotta repeat that.. 8k is a waiting game. You will see weeks between each name on the waiting list until the process speeds up.

Jarred: "Forged orders take priority for the 8K sensor after 8K ordering opens up again once the initial first batch of 8K orders has been notified."What this means, the NAB special $10,000 preorders for 8K will all be Helium by time/date stamp. That is only criteria.

I was having a some problems on "clicking" the 8k option, but I ordered at 6:05 am on the 13th. My assumption though, is the time stamp on upgrading to 8k is based on when you received your 6k weapon woven. I btw have no updates on when my woven 6k will be coming (i was upgrading a normal dragon, that put's me way back in the normal queue after CF and M, so I don't think my time matters as much).

I'm somewhere on the 13th. I sent my rep an email asking them to put the order in for me. I had limited internet connection where I was and logging on to a web page was impossible.

This list can only be a general guess at best. We're not sure how many sensors will be in a batch, or if other factors come into play. It can't be based solely on time stamps. we'll just have to wait and hope for the best. I've got three different projects lined up that MUST deliver in 8k, so my fingers are crossed.

Deriving the DRAGON sensor size is very easy, because the pixel pitch is 0.5 µm. Thus, 8192 pixel resolution equals 40.96mm.

Well i'm getting the 8k for anamorphics but for two different things, one is just to get a 4/3 sensor area for my anamorphic glass for "normal" filming (i.e. 19mm height ... technically 18.67), second I will also use a special anamorphic setup that will get most of the sensor covered for VR & game projects(will give me huge aspect ratio for multi screen stuff).

Geeked up that RED's 8K format is so wide, almost 41mm vs 36mm for FF35 and 37.72 for film VistaVision. Looking forward to shooting 2.40 on spherical glass for scope finish. Obviously, some material is well suited to the anamorphic look and/or blue horizontal flares, etc - have at it. I guess I'm just too in love with the way big wides read on spherical. Probably would capture at 2:1 aspect ratio, 8096 x 4048, to facilitate stabilization in the vertical axis, and allow for subtle reframes when warranted.

Target master: DCI 4K (CinemaScope cropped) 4096 × 1716 2.39:1 7,028,736 pixels.

It's going to be fun to see which lenses can really deliver 200 lp/mm, not to mention how much "edge" the OLPF takes off, and how much is "recovered" with a nearly 2:1 down-sample from capture rez. At 24fps, 250mb/s should have enough bits for clean 4K Scope with no banding or other artifacts. To me, it's the sweet spot of delivering picture quality capable of scaling to large displays, with 12 bit color using a well supported spec like DCI. 250mb/s is roughly 32MB/s so it's 115GB/hr, 230GB for a 120minute feature. Feels like we might be close to delivering DCPs on USB3 flash drives, the better ones can easily be read out at over 100MB/s which should make 32MB/s a piece of cake and 256GB capacity is becoming more common.

I keep wishing there was some way to use those little USB3 drives to store really high quality material in a format that has a decent chance of being supported by UHD displays out in the world. I also wish all the newer displays shipped with a P3 emulator or LUT that could be triggered by a flag in the source material header kind of like Dolby Surround sound.

Anyone game for Netflix Redux? Just use USB3 drives instead of DVDs...

Wow gives me a whole new appreciation for 70mm 15 perf IMAX. Mind you there are generation loses when working with film. Anyone think we will see a 645 as laid out in the original map?
