  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Are we still waiting for the specs? I thought they'd be released by now. Anyone on the show floor have any insight as to why they haven't been released yet?

Still nothing on the Store for "Tech Specs". Seems like a good time to show your cards. Gotta to to work - check back later. Odd

Anything that states Frame Rate v Compression Ratio? 18:1 is of little use from my experience

I think the sensor block is the limiting factor here in terms of frame rates. Even on the Weapon CF brain, which has significantly more internal bandwidth and processing ability, the rates are the same.

Are the compression settings at least better? How about gate shadow? Lowlight? DR? Can't help but be curious...

How about compressions ratio?

I believe compression ratios are quite a bit better all around on weapon then dragon.

I am wondering if there is a chance Red could make an option to turn off the pro res feature, use that additional bandwidth to go into rapid fire mode, and do double the frame rates across the board? I would strongly consider forking over for the upgrade if that could happen.

Also it did seem to do quite a bit better in low light, I boosted ISO to 4000 at nab and it seemed to hold up quite well and that was with STH olpf. Hard to tell from the monitor and I could be wrong there.

Here are the frame rates on weapon as of now:

1–100 fps 6K
1–120 fps 5K, 4.5K

1–150 fps 4K
1–200 fps 3K

1–300 fps 2K

Edit: Never mind, I realized that I was looking at FPS of Dragon with old SDD media. With mini mags its exactly the same FPS as Dragon. My bad.

Frame rates are limited to the sensor design and the "read and reset". It's not a matter of processing power. Until there is a new sensor technology the frame rates wont change, but the compression should change with the Weapon, ratios should get better.
