  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

We need an owners-only forum!

I think the idea of a "pro" forum is a really bad idea. It would take the life out of this one.

If there are posts or attitudes that are getting out of hand, let's moderate more and get this place back to the way things used to be.

Maybe the disclaimer needs to change to "We reserve the right to refuse service or forum use to anyone with a bad attitude"

good point

Why not start some alternative groups, like:

redbashing.com
redrumors.com
whyihatered.com
reddidntgivemeafreecam.com
redisntreallyworkingandirefusetoreadthemanual.com
jimjannardisacapitalistandredisabusinessandihatethat.com

redisntfilmandredshouldbefilmbutitcanneverbeandilovefilm.com

cinematography.com

for example

and then we could ask some prominent users to moderate them...

I said that I'm not complaining :).

I actually enjoyed it seeing that the REDUser and Red.com are down, battered by thousands of hungry souls :).

Yes. Hopefully next year they will be prepared and mirror their sites over Akamai or something, like Apple does on keynote day.

I was so excited about Monday's announcements that I pulled my car over on the highway at 11:59am EDT and fired up my wireless Internet. The sloooow page loads were agonizing.

I don't think ruling out people with a low number of posts is that great an idea. I used to frequent this forum a lot last year and I believe I gave some good input to discussions. I've been super busy the past few months so I've not been around, and then last week I tried to log in again and my user account had been deleted. Now I get to start all over again as a junior member. That's kind of irritating.

I have to agree though that comparing the kind of discussions I read now to those 10 months ago, the maturity level has dropped a bit. I choose to ignore the trolls and those that clearly have no intelligent input to contribute... it works for me.

I am glad to see that most of the good old faces I used to enjoy are still around.

People don't like paying for content on the Internet. Period. Your little Red Elite walled garden would end up having about 5 users.

I think that's the point. I'm for it.

But I'd want more than just private posting. I'd want maybe file hosting, transferring options as well as well as better connection/collaboration tools with other users.

What's the real reason? To Exclude people?
There is a big chance the ones you don't want will fork up the cash because they want to be in the "elite squad" and the ones that really have something important to say don't feel the need to pay to be able to share their knowledge.

True, unless there's something more we could get for our money than private posting.

Mike Seymour proposed an oath at the workflow show last night (half serious, half fun). I didn't take notes so can't give you a full list (pls feel free to augment, anybody whose short term memory is more robust than mine) but have a think about subscribing to these three tennents which relate to the forum:

1. Thou shalt not scream at "Me too" posts
2. Thou shalt not post "Me too" posts
3. Thou shalt not post "I love Jim" posts (I think he's figured it out, btw)

Can't do much about the trolls, don't want to exclude people, tired of reading people trying to up their post count cuz they don't like "Junior" in their profile.

EDIT: Hey, I lost my Junior stat on that post! What are the odds?

I see what you did there.

I'm in, if invited.

Reduserpro.net

I'm thinking it starting to be to much of everything here!

I be more than happy to pay for a Pro site. RedUser up until a few weeks ago used to be my one stop for Cinematography chat/news and useful technical updates on Red cameras and equipment.

Red Rock Micro has a real names board and it still doesn't prevent people from being unprofessional there either. I know, I've given Brian a hard time there and had to apologize a few times.

Make me thinking, a rookies section is still missing in here.

i like this section....there could be all the repeating questions land...
we could make stickies...
