  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

We need an owners-only forum!

EDIT/
mods moved my thread around...
my thread was called reduser pro
but makes sense to melt the reduser pro thread with owners only thread

my intend is not to have a lala land forum...we had some great in deep technical discussions here, they were challening but always respectful, based on knowledge and fair...
and it is not to avoid newcomers...a basic question can lead to new opinions and ways of doing something

imdb has it...

model:
10-20 dollars per month
everybody can read.
members can post
no real names needed (i like k.berlin)....people i want to know me, know me...and the other way around----and maybe some arri/sony/rental house employes are here, who want to stay anonym
so people who wish can stay anonym
manufactors free? ---chime in
no need to own a cam
1st 25 posts are free...

model2:
instead of a fee, what about invitation only....you need two invitations from different users to get access.....if you dont have an invitation you have 25 free posts....

pro:
no fee, sound/noise ratio gets down
you dont have to own a cam
you dont have to have xxx numbers of posts

con:
chime in

edit2/ i edited my original post with new thoughts

If you start to charge and support is given here by a member of the red team that could start a whole mess of people complaining that people paying to be members of the pro site get better support.

I don't really see a reason for it. I think what we have now is great!

I think reduser pro could be a good idea but preferably more for serious users. It's great that we have such a vast community but it would also be nice with a more secluded and professional one.

Or an option where we can tick what forum topics we want to glance at - for example I would love to rule out all that has to do with audio, scarlet, unboxing etc but still have the option of New posts.

regards,

Fredrik

red announcements could be mirrored---

and 10 Dollars is nothing....its a small fee...this small fee doesnt exclude anyone seriously interested in red...nobody will get poor with 10 bucks a months...
its more of a psychological thing...

and hey 1st 20 posts are free

some of my favorite redusers are posting less and less...and you can imagine the reasons for that....i think its sad.

and i would give away some wild cards......because some redusers are worth to be paid to post here.
------or give them a mod status if they want...or something else

the fee could be used to donate something to great guys who invented all the little extras....surreal...anders holck...wenger...bloom...joofa...etc...

Why don't we just switch over to real names, that might make a big difference.

Matthew

i was thinking about this too....but after discussions with other users, i understood that there are maybe some arri/sony/rental house employes out there in the community, who want to stay anonym...

People don't like paying for content on the Internet. Period. Your little Red Elite walled garden would end up having about 5 users.

If you're really concerned about the signal to noise ratio here, start putting the idiots on ignore, and perhaps ask Jarred to add an option to ignore posters with less than XX number of posts.

if you think the fee is for making money...honestly you did not understand the whole point.

This was the reason to donate the money...remember?

What's the real reason? To Exclude people?
There is a big chance the ones you don't want will fork up the cash because they want to be in the "elite squad" and the ones that really have something important to say don't feel the need to pay to be able to share their knowledge.

I think the idea of a "pro" forum is a really bad idea. It would take the life out of this one.

If there are posts or attitudes that are getting out of hand, let's moderate more and get this place back to the way things used to be.

Maybe the disclaimer needs to change to "We reserve the right to refuse service or forum use to anyone with a bad attitude"
