  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Way to really speed up CS6!

PCIe SSDs have been around for years. What is promising is the SDK integration. Not sure if this will benefit Premiere Pro users unless you are working with uncompressed 4K material? Wouldn't SSDs in RAID get you the same result? One SATA III is certainly slower than PCIe x4, but not 2 SATA (or more), and there are many more of those.

I'm curious about your bad experience at the Adobe booth. I don't recall you coming by the "Ask the Expert" station when I was there (every day until1:30PM).

What specific questions were you asking?
Todd we've visited this topic last year.
Where I couldnt get a single software jockey to admit they knew about the AFP/SMB 2GB QT file limit problem.
Its not like back in the day when they had real pros running these shows.
But my experience is more SIGGRAPH than NAB.

Back on topic, since we're talking about this Fusion option, anyone remember the ICE cards from the good old days?
We had one for Avid (I think) but I was looking at the DPS chips to help speed up renderings for AE pre CS.
Just being nostalgic sigh....

....also want to be able to drop an entire REEL on the timeline---THEN export (after edit/coloring of each clip---and output as INDIVIDUAL clips....not one long timeline.....another feature that is lacking in CS 6 that kicks me in the gonads when i need to export individual clips for a job....PLEASE x 2 Adobe, i've sent my requests...but i know these two are rather the red-headed step child requests...they get little attention....

This feature would be REALLY helpful (and it seems like it'd be a simple fix). Adobe, we'd like to be able to export a big sequence as individual clips .

Is there a scripting option in Premiere Pro?
Maybe that can be easily done with physical cuts or markers.

It's rather simple in FCP....LIKE THIS:
go to project broswer & create a new empty bin- call it say Export Clips
Click anywhere on the timeline and thpe Command+A to select all clips
Drag the selected clips from the timeline into teh newly crated "Export Clips" bin
...you then see a Creating Master Clips dialog box while it is transferring the clips

Now, control-Click on the "export Clips" bin an from the drop down meun choose Batch Export
click on the Settings button at the bottom of the Batch Export window and make sure you set your destination for your clips as well as checking the USE IN AND OUT checkbox--otherwise it will export the entire source clip...not just the in/out of each clip

When all this is done, press Export button and it will then export your newly edited and colored clips to the new destination as individual clips....this should be something Adobe can EASILY integrate....but waiting is killing me.

.....Adobe - PLEASE!!! you are forcing me to continue using FCP for this...

That would be me... I have worked to get this bug fixed for the last 5 years or so... I know everything about this bug...

Cheers

Dave

Thanks David it was you as well as a few others.
I guess we've all moved on and not had to worry about this issue.
With REDRAY and the 4K Projector, I can honestly say we wont be rendering to a whopping QT for any large multi-display set-up anymore ;)

I actually asked for this feature to be implemented in cs5 then 5.5 now cs6. they have implemented it in the export to SG as dpx 10 bits.
I guess they have figured out native workflows so they are steadily understanding the various preferred codecs and render workflows.

once we import files from the various codecs into premiere, we want to be able to convert them all into a simple codec albeit still as individual cuts, to be able to xml out to other third party programs for efx, etc. simply exporting one slow long quick time animation codec is sooo 1996, its not even funny.

from cs4 to cs5, i proposed cinema DNG as a mastering format. Many camera companies accepted this format created by our very own adobe. edited clips can be mastered to a format sch as prores 4444, cineDNG, DPX etc. one can always revisit those mastered clips for re-edits etc.

Second question is just that with CS6 is adobe premier updated to 6.0 form 5.5?

Hi Will,

There's no firm date on the CS6 release yet - hopefully we'll all know soon :)

Not sure what you mean by your second question. Premiere Pro is part of the Production Suite so if your upgrading to that or Master Collection (which includes all Adobe tools), then Premiere Pro CS6 is included :)
