I dropped into Scarletuser (which is a place I haven't visited in a long while.)
Scarletuser used to be a fun place to hang out. All the industry pro's were over at Reduser, so we were pretty much left to our not-quite-pro selves.
There was a lot of banter and wild musings going on 'back in the day' and I cut out a few choice fragments that I thought I'd share.
While the RedUser dudes were talking about RedDrives, we were thinking SSD. ScarletUser is full of this stuff.
Back then I was firmly in the 'who needs interchangeable lens' camp. I'm still waiting on the Scarlet, and since acquiring a 7D I've swapped over to the interchangeable lens team.
May 2008 HDR (among other things)
1) Linked cameras for HDR (High Dynamic Range). Since Jim or Jarred has already intimated that a pair of Scarlets may indeed be linkable for coordinating the lenses for 3-D shooting, I thought about this: could we hook two Scarlets together and link them such that they provide the most parallel field of view possible, then stop one down three or four stops and shoot simultaneously, with the idea that the two camera images could be combined in post to create a high-dynamic-range image? If their image planes were exactly parallel, then even though there'd be some overlap, perhaps (maybe) they'd render the perspective properly such that you could combine them, crop off the sides, and have a usable HDR image...

May 2008 Convergence
I honestly don't believe that still photography and motion pictures are going to converge in quite the way some are suggesting.
Certainly for some news applications pulling a still frame from HD video is perfectly sufficient, for others it isn't. Print media is here to stay, and so long as it is - so is still photography.

Sept 2008 Modular
Maybe I want to bolt on two batteries, and or an SSD?
Maybe a shoulder mount or cooling system (The cooling system could run water through the bolt holes to pull heat out of the other components?)
Maybe I’ll move one of the battery packs behind the shoulder mount to improve balance?
Do I need the audio slice?
Maybe I’ll strip everything but the lens and imaging chip (do the processing on a workstation) and use it for a Stop-motion rig?

July 2008 Interchangeable lens on scarlet
Just to be clear, and for those of you just joining the forum ⇒ SCARLET IS NOT AN INTERCHANGEABLE LENS CAMERA. Red has stated that it’s not going to happen, not for the price of 3K. At the moment there isn’t a product offered between Scarlet and Red that offers interchangeable lenses. Think it’s easy to just create a lens mount for any photo lens on Scarlet? Think again…

Aug 2008 Accelerometer
What if Red installed an accelerometer into Scarlet and recorded the operator’s movements in the metadata?
This data feed could be picked up by a Post app, and used to smooth out the motion in the video. Not just up/down right/left and XY angle but probably Z angle shifts too.

I came up with a crazy idea for correcting the rolling shutter problem of CMOS sensors without actually improving the sensor itself.
