I just got my Red a couple of days ago.
It came both unexpected (I wrongly estimated time of delivery to be a month away due to the recent delays) and unannounced (I was told by my Red rep that I will get a call before shipping, but I didn't get the call).
Because of this, I wasn't in full camping gear outside my door when Fed Ex delivered it.
So the big, tempting, Red camera box was left all by its lonely self out in the open on my doorstep.
Luckily the wife got up to see who had been knocking and disturbing her beauty nap (oh, what a life).
I read here on the forum that Fed Ex will leave it there if they have previous permission to do so.
So I called Fed Ex to turn that off. But I found out they no longer use that rule.
According to the Fed Ex rep that I spoke to, the new rule is that the shipper has to indicate whether signature is required or not because the shipper is paying extra for the sig required feature.
I called Red and the customer rep first said they require a signature but then mentioned the rule about it being overriden. But when I told him it was no longer applicable, the rep said to call my Red rep.
So I don't have any clear answers. Red says they require signature (I believe them!). But my $$$$ camera was left at the door.
I'm not pointing fingers and I know that people get tracking numbers, etc. via email. So hopefully I'll be one of those anomolies. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up.
