Was testing out my EOS lens and testing out the low light of the camera. I had to run of an inverter so I had to be tethered to the car. I took like 2-4 mins CC each shot in Red cine x and slapped it together in QT pro.

I now understand why everyone loves the 70-200 L ... nice. Im gonna have to say for cinema purposes the 100mm L macro is my hands down fave. 28-135mm is the sadest in the bunch.

Oh and I was on a photo tripod, lol, it only had issues with the 70-200 if it was pointed down it kept moving..

Nice Porsche 911 :)

I love the car ;')

Hey Matt, maybe we should meet up and talk shop?

Gonna be even warmer tomorrow. I wonder if there are enough DC area Red users to put a group together, unless there is already one Im not aware of

Ben: I am sure that there are. I can rattle off 6-10 names. I think the bigger question is: is there a need for such a group given the other DC area film groups. Unless the Red group was there to do 1) demos/educational seminars on the RED cams and workflow (which I think would be a top draw) or 2) a RED rental co-op type thing, I am not sure that there is a need.

I do have a lot of lenses and, since I do not currently own a Red camera, would love to test some.

Michael, we could go to one of those meetings together, wear matching jackets, get drunk and be obnoxious... But that would only be half fun. ;-)

On a more serious note we could bring our own agenda to an after meeting beer and make Red centric introductions and discussion.

From SoCal, still stuck in DC. So would really love to get to know and help out fellow RedHeads in the area. My Scarlet and gear might be up for rent, and also up to help shoot for time to time.

How about this: for RedHeads, let's just meet for dinner somewhere/sometime. I suggest Carmine's near Verizon center about 6pm some evening like Wednesday. I am also a member of dcfilmsociety.com or org. Any other Red users also a member?

Look forward to meeting other red users in DC.

Kevin: good to know you. If by dcfilmsociety, you mean the DC Film Alliance, which does the monthly DC Film Salon meetings and also the DC Shorts Film Fest, then yes I am a member. In fact, I may be doing a lens seminar for an upcoming Salon meeeting. If so, i would love to have a Scarlet or three there to demo a lens as it goes from an autocollimator to a lens test projector, to a producing an image on a camera.

There is a Film Salon meeting Feb 8th (a Wednesday, in fact), about a block away from the Verizon Center.

I'll note that, when Ketch Rossi came through DC this summer for an Epic demo, the room was packed with Red enthusiasts, and was done on short notice. So I am guessing that there is more than enough Redheads (love that) in DC.

Cheers

Oh, I see. dcfilmsociety.com is something completely different. Ifs for peeps who watch movies. DC Film Alliance is for people who make movies. You should sign up for some events.

Oh man I am mad I missed the chance to meet the superstar Mr. Rossi! That being said I would love for there to be a redhead fellowship in the district.

I went to my first DC Film Org event in pouring rain and found it very worthwhile, so I plan to also get more involved there.

I actually mean http://dcfilmsociety.org/ -- great group/chance to see pre-release and press screenings for films in DC. Really glad I joined, there is a charge, but after that, there is no charge to see films. I paid 70ish for 1 year and have averaged 1 free movie a week. Half year is half of that I think. I recc paying the bit extra for the Gold.

and yes, we need to get all the Red people together. There might be some interesting opportunities...

I'm down for a DC Red user pow-wow. We're the NY/LA of the future! Maybe.

Nevertheless, I would welcome a chance to network with all the Red users in the area.

I think I might know a place where 10-15 of us could meet and talk shop in D.C. or we could find somewhere else. Im in the Rockville area, not sure where everyone else is.

If there is a DC film event (making or watching) then maybe get some some chow and drinks around that area. Next dc film.org event?

Also: this. just a member, but I learn lots from watching too...

I love the idea of a DC area REDuser group, if not for anything else, to at least have an online network for cross rentals and referals. It could be done on FB, YahooGroups, or LinkedIn, etc; and then, like you guys said, meetings could be combined into or after other DC meetings or events. I know at least 2 or 3 other curent or near future REDusers in the area I can pull in.

I'm waiting for March to get here so I can put my hands on my Scarlet, and any chance I could get to see one sooner, I'll jump at.

I was at the last DCFilmSalon on business practices (great info). I'm also a member of TIVA (Gold Peer Award for cinematography in '09), and SCAD alumni.

FB has a few highly active local filmmaking groups by region: Maryland Filmmakers, DC Filmmakers, Prince Williams County Filmmakers that could be mined for more local REDusers (or REDheads).

We got a Hooters here in Rockville. We could have a meet and greet and figure out an agenda and logistics for the first meeting.

These are the things I would like in a group meeting:

Demo personal bits and pieces of gear to help figure out what is good and worthy. Showing how and why the parts are used and any tricks.
Have company product demos.
Setting up a support network of shooters and gear
Sharing techniques and things learned
Running camera and gear test shoots ( group testing and analysis)
Shared educational resources

I would really like to keep the group small and focused .. i.e. If you don't own or have a Red on order, or are not a working DP, you will have to make a strong case to attend.
I have been to too many FCP group meetings where a NUBE derails the whole night with "What does 4.4.4 stand for" type questions all night long. I also want to prevent gear
from going missing.

Anyone want to meet today?
