  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Wanted...

The Insider had heavily burnt out highlights etc, and no DI was used.

In the case of Wanted, I think the motion artifacts being discussed are more to do with a lot of the shots being massively slowed down in post, leading to liquidy swirly motion issues - some shots where the motion blur pulsates in intensity, meaning alternating frames are more, then less blurred as interpolated frames are reconstructed from between the actual frames shot, so these in between frames tend to look more smeary.

I'm familiar with Optical Flow tools, and notied those being used quite often, but this is something else. For the life of me, the only shot I can remember clearly was....

....when Wesley crashed the garbage truck into the Fraternity HQ, it was a low angle with an overcast sky featuring prominently in the frame. I got the impression that they rigged a small crash cam onto the truck.

Jim,

Mitch Amundson the Wanted DP, used to be my operator and I have been in discussions with some of the VFX execs at Uni (John Swallow) as well as the former Uni president of production (Jim Brubaker) regarding my purchase of the Red and about seeming mis-information regarding use of the Red on Wanted.

I think you have explained it all quite well in these posts. They seem to be upset about some NY Sun article.

I believe that people need to calm down. The evolving of the RED, as well as all the other HD tools at our disposal and their cooresponding workflow issues are what is exciting. I look forward to a not too distant future when I can shoot a film on the Genesis, the Arri D-21 and the RED and intercut the footage. Much as we do now with multiple Kodak stocks and Panaflexs, Arri 435s, Cookes, and Primos..... That is my dream...
