G'day again guys,

I've had so much going on lately and I've been wanting to share some random things here. I sold off some lenses recently and sold my taking lens that I had for my Anamorphic mess. After the missing of my standard for artistic difference, I was lead down to the shore of thinking what I can do to replace my standard taking lens (which was a Jupiter-9 85mm ~ which was beautiful,) and I thought to try out some lenses that I might of never thought to use in the first place. Anyway, here we are and I know by using anything wider than 50~55mm with this kind of setup can lead to los of res or needing to crop in post / both. However, I was very interested in trying this out and I believe I'm the only weirdo to try out this combo ... If not, please share what you've shot with this unlikely fellowship of lenses.

The set up is the Voigtländer Ultron 40mm f2 as the taking lens and the Sankor 16C ANA x2.

Here are some screengrabs that are mega rough:

Wonderful frames.
I have no experience in any of this setup, any pics of how it looks installed?
This adapter work on any lense?
Example RED ZOOM/PRIMES?

G'day Eric,
Looks like this (see pic below)

Concept:
1. You have an Anamorphic Projector Lens, which was used for 16mm film (I think, originally ~ correct if wrong), it is the Sankor 16C; often an overlooked lens from my experience. I see many going for the 16D. I bought one for a good price and it had the rear mounting adapter, which you can buy on Ebay. I found also a front adapter for the Anamorphic lens, so I could use 77mm filters ~ can confirm that it works how it should.
2. A Taking Lens; which is any lens recommended above 50mm~55mm for this kind of set up. As you can see from the images above, the 40mm is too wide for this combination, – unless you want the barrel effect, of course.
3. Camera, Connect, shoot, discover magic.

That is essentially the idea. Then you can play around with Anamorphic on a budget with any types of lenses. I think there is a pretty large number of potential combinations, it might hurt the brain to think too much about this. I know for me that, on my MX sensor at 2x Anamorphic De-Squeeze, @5K FF, I was able to be happy with the 85mm Jupiter-9 the most. I like the compression of the 85mm and then squeezed into a 42.5mm field of view ~ pretty wild stuff. I've tried a few others, but they weren't much mentioning, tbh.

I know you got the Epic-X Dragon, so you might find also the taking lens choice above 60mm might be better for you, if you were to try out this fun experiment, ;).

As for adapting this on the Zoom/Prime from RED, I think that the front optics aren't really compatible ~ give it a try, you never know, I am skeptical. Using step-down rings to get the adapter on, as it is on mine a 52mm thread. I would go with a vintage prime, like; the 55mm Takumar, the Helios-44-2 58mm, any of the 85mm lenses for sure, – Anything really about 55mm~on, i guess.

Cheers!

Thanks, Patrick, great post :)
How are you finding the image from all this?
Is it close to the original taking lens or?

Hey Eric! Thank you!
Yeah, I enjoy the images from it. It is a work around, so I wouldn't ever use it in a pro setting. For fun, yes!

If you mean by the physical sense, it is very close. But if you meant it by the focal range, then yes, you see the barrel with the wider lenses. I would go 55mm and up to avoid too much in post editing. A fun project!

Cheers!
