Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone knew how much resolution one could squeeze out of a Red VV in 6:5ana mode with Cooke anamorphics, and if it is no more than a regular Weapon Dragon, or whether there were other 2x anamorphic lenses that had a larger image circle.

Thanks,

Ben

Hi Ben,

There are some rare ones, Lomo made a few I think though I'm sure Ilya here on reduser could tell you in more detail I'm sure. Not sure what the cooke's cover though I remember having to crop to 5khd on S4i's on epic dragon to avoid portholing so imagine they would only cover s35 image circle anamorphic glass? VV might be too tall of an imager? So few VV's in the world anyway to test though RED have found it easier to manufacture VV ANA (doesn't need to be as wide) and a rental house in France has one so they're probably the right ones to ask as I'm sure they have experimented on a bunch of glass for this rare cut of the dragon sensor. Much easier to shoot 4:3 on Alexa which there are an abundance of cameras to cater for anamorphic shooting in the UK. 18mm sensor height for 2x anamorphic shooting is the golden ticket. Beyond that, I would be interested to know!

Atlas Lens Co. Orion Series Anamorphics are designed for a 24.89mm wide x 18.66mm tall imaging area!

Looking forward to showcasing the whole 3 lens set relatively soon.

Best,

Dan

I use my Lomo squarefronts on the a7s2 sometimes. Which has a 20.2mm sensor height for 4k video I believe.
At a 2.40:1 finish, the 35mm doesn't quite cover and need to be cropped a little. The 50mm and 80mm cover no problem.

Since the VV anamorphic 8K's image circle is big than s35mm, so, the Cooke 2x Anamorphic can not cover the VV 8k, for 7k with 6:5 is alright...
You may check out more details from Phil Holland's website...
