As RED One owners, we know that familiarity with the camera's menu structure and the feature set of the latest firmware is critical in having full control over the images we produce. We also know that many people, particularly non-owners, don't have the luxury of being able to spend hours with the camera, getting to know the ins and outs of all 200 menus and settings, especially while working in the field.

We've developed what we sincerely hope will be a valuable tool for RED users. Vis-à-Vis: RED, an iPhone-based menu reference guide for the RED One.

The application is a fully searchable database that allows users to quickly identify and locate all parameters and settings on the camera. Users can view menus and setting in the same hierarchy as on the camera, alphabetically, or by searching with keywords.

Vis-à-Vis: RED has recently been added to the iTunes Store and we hope it proves to be extraordinarily useful for RED owners, operators, ACs, DPs, and Audio Mixers. We sincerely look forward to hearing your feedback.

*** UPDATES
- support for build 30.4.1 has been added
- various bugs have been fixed and performance enhancements have been made
* The application has been updated and should be available in the app store.

Best,

Very Nice

As soon as build 30 is officially released, the app will definitely be updated. We plan to release updates each time new firmware is released as a final version.

Just to clarify, the app supports multiple builds. In the preferences area you can select the build you want to use. As of now it only supports 21.4.1 until build 30 is finally released.

Actually, I didn't realize that. We'll probably wait a little while then release an update. I would hate to release something that isn't final and potentially confuse people. Thanks for the tip.

very nice, not easy to find via the iphone app store. Why does it need 3.1.2?

I think it will probably take a while to propagate through the store. It was just released yesterday. There were some performance issues with older versions of the os that were resolved in 3.12. The next update might roll back to an older version depending on performance results.

It probably takes a while to propagate through the store. It was just released yesterday. As far as 3.1.2 goes, we opted to go this way because of performance issues that were resolved in the newer os. After some additional testing we might provide an update that will support older versions.

Thanks

Definitely needs build 30 support ASAP. I wouldn't wait for a build to become official before releasing support for it. At the moment, all MX cameras must run B30 as digitalfx said. Not only that, but many RED One owners tend to run the bleeding edge with the latest firmware builds. B30 may be beta, but it's definitely the one to use right now, IMO. The triple-check alone makes it so.

Suggestion: Let your app download support for new camera builds on its own from a support site you set up. Then you don't have to re-submit a new version to the App Store every time a new firmware build is released.

Suggestion 2: If you haven't already, extend your data model to allow for multiple builds and menu hierarchies across multiple camera models. ...Just sayin'

As an iPhone/iPad developer myself, I always consider the dilemma of which version to support. There are some advantages to targeting the latest version or perhaps only one version behind. It's true that this may alienate a few users, but also reduces the amount of piracy and holds a lot of benefits for performance tuning, as you have mentioned. The down side is that there's a lot of people out there who jailbreak their phones to use with alternate carriers and many of them still are legit customers via the iPhone App Store. It's becoming increasingly more difficult to jailbreak new iPhone OS versions and it's taking longer to do so. So you do effectively eliminate a potential share of your market by targeting the latest OS version.

Ditto what Jeff said about online updates...I bought the app and was very disappointed that its useless for me.

Very few people work on the release version of FW...if you stick w/ release version of the FW you are severely restricting the audience and the usefulness of the app.

This should be corrected right away.

Agreed. For $0.99 or $2.99 I'd buy it now as I like the layout a lot better then the Pocket DIT app. But as I am on build 30, I'll wait until that is supported before I spend $9.99 on it.

That is a great point- I've jail broken my phone to use T-Mobile, so I always wait until the new OS has been broken before upgrading. So it looks like this will be an app I'll have to wait to buy anyway ...
