Just broke the bank on a RED One package and having strictly Canon glass, I need to find something cheap for the time being so I can shoot test footage. I’ve been all over eBay looking for some vintage PL mount lenses for dirt cheap. Do you all have any suggestions?

Andrew

I have never heard of "dirt cheap" PL glass!! When you find it please let me know!! I would love to have at least 1!!! :yesnod:

Funkykoval is certainly a name that inspires confidence...

yeah i've been looking at those cheap ass lenses for awhile. really doesn't inspire confidence.. may just want to stick to nikkor glass since you're a canon user and a simple adaptor will allow you to use nikkors on your canon cameras too

Go for dirt cheap any day, but the best choice in my opinion is to find 1st or 2nd generation Angenieux zooms with PL, Arri or M42 mount.

I have these lens (2 old Russian Helios, Mir 35mm, Jupiter 200mm) and use them sometimes on Canon 5d Mark II. I'd not recommend them for any type of commercial work even in HD because of their certain vintage look, far from perfect bokeh, overal softness, fringe and color shift. Also though they may be quite sharp as Jupiter but the focusing ring is very tight.

You may need them for some kind of retro work but never for 4,5k IMHO

Yeah I saw the Helios lens but was hesitant on it. I think I’m just going to go the Nikon route with the All-Star mount until I can snag some CP.2s.

I am also selling a vintage PL set. While not dirt cheap, you might want to take a look. They are recently serviced and cleaned.

I shot several things on them, including 'Land of the Heroes' which won over 20 prizes worldwide (Berlinale, Bussan,...) including a few cinematography awards, so their quality survives in the real world :-)

I didn't know Angie's came in m42... Where have you seen them?

I see old russian glass on ebay for 3-600 dollars and they are PL mount, they look interesting, are there tests anywhere online on them? I might actually LIKE the look out of them

You can see a variety of those old lenses here in this video I owned most of them.

Early Angies came that way, then You would add or change to a BNCR or Cameflex etc. I recently bought one and had Duclos changed it to PL
