So...
I've been pretty busy shooting and have not had much time to post here.
But I did receive my viewfinder the other day and I must say it is rather nice. VERY robust in appearance and feel. The focusing action is very smooth, and it accommodates my dioptric adjustment with room to spare (and my eyes are pretty bad)
I did notice a weird color fringing on sharp edges. But it's fleeting, and at the periphery of my vision, and I think it's just a subtle effect of any color viewfinder.
The ET bracket is a must-have. It integrates very well. I hope the short screws that came with the Red viewfinder are really strong enough to handle production-grade abuse. The holes in the finder are not helicoiled and I did not want to overtighten the screws when I mounted the ET bracket.
There is a weird problem with the image zoom. Whether I press the button on the body or the button on the finder, the image will zoom in. If I press it again to resume normal viewing, the viewfinder goes dark. If I press it again, the image zooms in. If I press it again, the image returns to the finder but with no markings or data. I press the button until I finally get the image, with data, not zoomed in, that matches the LCD. I assume this is a software thing and that others have already reported this to the Red Team. Anyone else have this issue?
The other annoying thing is that when I plug in the EVF and the LCD at the same time, the Lemo connectors on the body are spaced just close enough together to make it VERY difficult to plug or unplug the cables. Ironically, it's the fat ribbing on the fancy "RED" molded 90 degree connector that makes it difficult. When I have the time, I'm going to shave off the ribs, and I presume that this will make it easier.
Anyway, just some minor complaints... all in all I'm very happy with the EVF.
Anyone else want to chime in?
Cheers,
Harry
