As a long time editor (CMX/AVID/FCP) and colorist I relie HEAVILY on a video waveform (with luminenece / RGB parade and other display functions). The thought of doing any color correction, even a one light without a video waveform just doesn't work for me. And a histogram is not a good substitute. I am rather surprised this is not a part of Redcine X.

Alex, I appreciate the info. I guess my point is that FCP, Color, Color Finesse all have waveforms. I was just curious why a pro app like Redcine X doesnt have one. It would seem crucial for the part of the work flow that Redcine X is
a part of. Besides,as much as I would like to buy new tools like the dedicated waveform, money and work is tight these days ;-) (Im not sure I have any room left in my Mac Pro with all the Kona 3 and Graphic display cards that are stuffed in there).

All of the other programs you mentioned are basically video programs, intended to produce video images, displayed on a video monitor, as a basic product. Redcine X is not a video program. It is a digital image converter, and the appropriate measurement tool for digital images is a histogram - which is included in the program.

The other part of the answer to your question is that Redcine X is free.

Mike, I understand and appreciate the free part. And if it were just doing a utilitarian digital image conversion process I could understand no scope. But if the program is generating a one light, I would disagree that a histogram is the appropriate tool for doing that specific process. Im sure a lot of other colorists would express the same sentiments. ;-)

Careful with mind readers – it's mind blowing. I watched the demo at IBC and saw all my wishes for a "Hyper-RCX" fulfilled…
