Video Out?

Hello,
I have been trying to find out what it will take to get video out of the drive modules, and haven't found anything solid for info. Somewhere I found that the Scarlet will have FireWire800. Anyone know if this is true?

I think you have the wrong idea here - the whole RED system is file based. You don't need a capture card like the Decklink - just copy the RDC directories off the disks (which contain the footage as R3D files). The current RED Drives have eSata, Firewire and USB (I think), so you just take the files you want. Or you can shoot onto compact flash (cheaper, but less record time) and just use any CF reader.

As for getting the media into your NLE - with Final Cut, Vegas and Adobe CS4, you can import it natively (no transcoding needed). But some people who use Final Cut seem to favour using Clipfinder to make proxies to edit with and then to reconform their project back to the original files for finishing. You can view the footage with REDCINE-X and use that for exporting too.

ah yes, that makes everything clear now! im used to using p2 cards for video, this will be so much better! thank you for the info.
