  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

We have found that the ATI card works best for a Mac... and an 8 Core is the obvious choice for the fastest and most reliable use of REDCINE. The NVidia cards will work, but the ATI's work better.

This is a bit disappointing for Macbook Pro users, at least in the current versions. I was hoping to get pretty good performance using the MB Pro on set. Obviously I don't expect them to be as fast as Mac Pro counterparts, but the NVidia bug is kind of annoying. Hopefully there's a chance they can get it worked out.

Jim, using a macbook with Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor just for backup with an external harddisk and checking the shots with an 30" monitor would it work redcinema?

Sorry Jim for bothering you, I have just learned that the MB has just One FireWire 400 port (8 watts) so, it won't work.

REDCINE will work with all Intel Macs. It just works MUCH better with ATI video cards.

Jim

Yeah, no doubt it works on MB Pro, just wish the NVidia card was up to the task much better than it is. But so far, the app is looking really good Jim and I am very grateful that you released it to us before our cameras shipped. It's nice being able to play around with it.

if your having issues with output you can try NOT renaming the #6.E file output name.. worked for me.

preview on a macbook seems to work fine, the graphic card issue just seems to pop up on export.

For what it's worth there are other issues happening with the Macbook Pros that use the NVIDIA 8600M card. While playing video you'll often notice a tearing in the video. Apparantly Apple is aware of this and they are working on it. Not sure if this relates at all to issues with Redcine, but wanted to mention it because there are strange issues going on.

REDCINE also rocks with Boot Camp's Windows XP SP2 on Mac Pro 8 - core + 9B memory + dual ATI Radeon X1900 XT!

I'm using a Radeon X1300 on winXP. Redcine works fine until you glick the 'go' button. All the exports are gobbildygook, black frames with white squiggles. Looks like some GPU processing issue.

Tried changing the export from tiff to jpg but it still produces the black frames. Preview in Redcine looks fine. any ideas?

Jim

are the nvidia still the best choise for pc, or is it the same than for Mac?

thanks,
antoine.

So , as far as I've understand redcine is mostly rendering out on gpu. How could
these rendering times be shortened in the future. Would there be a benefit putting more video cards inside then?? Or is it even possible we could profit from the more cores (2x8core coming) in the future?

I have been testing on several different PC setups and can confirm that ATI graphics cards might work on preview, but not on actual output. I have tested the following ATI cards:

Radeon X600
Radeon X1300
Radeon X1900

All failed to generate usable output.

I purchased and installed a Nvidia 8600 GTS in one of the machines and it now generates usable output from some codecs.

Still doing more testing, but I would agree that on PCs, ATI is not the way to go.

Red cine with Nvidia Quadro fx 600

Red cine with Nvidia Quadro fx 600

I am trying to use redcine on two machines - one with the quadro fx 600 and one with the quadro fx go 700

In both cases I can see and play the clip inside redcine but the colour adjustment controls make no difference at all.

Does redcine not work with these cards ?
