I'm getting almost 2+ hour per frame processing times on my film for vfx, and that is when everything goes smoothly. More often then not, things between applications have problems, as I have "slowly" been upgrading my movie. I.E I started off with a Adobe/AE/blender work flow ... now I'm a Redcinex/Lightworks/Nukex/modo/realflow/maxwell_render/syntheyes/ work flow.
Now that I've gotten to a professional quality level, I've noticed my central "hub" of file conversions and render integration is blowing up and not working well. I'm super low budget, but when ever I ask the big guys what they do, they often mention Maya as the vfx hub (i.e. it is integrating the various supplied models, reading in all the vfx formats like realflow bin, and kicking off the final renders). I hate to change things mid movie, but one of the good things of super low budget is you can and it overall doesn't cost very much ... but I want to double check I'm not doing something totally stupid (insane perhaps but at least not stupid). So here's my poll for people's preferred vfx hub for format integration and rendering:
