  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

VFX test shot on RED...

I really can't thank Jim enough for this camera. I think it should cost at least twice as much. It is unbelievable for tracking and keying. And skin actually looks like skin instead of a horrible digital representation like most other HD cameras on the market. I also love the way it handles light, simply stunning.

Its 4:55am just came home from more test shooting ... Was shooting outdoor night shots under nothing but sodium vapor orange lights in a parking deck.. What I would consider some of the worst lighting ever and still the red looks like raw organic film..... At this point we really can't make this camera look 'bad' as hard as we try..... Un real...... This camera is about as far from 'video' as it gets!!!

I feel like I have been locked up for years on video and HD..... Red shoots what 35mm film snobs have been shooting forever.

Thanks again Jim..... Really!

Now how about build 15 :)?

its almost done... having some Z depth collision issues with the human and the butterfly swarm(some butterflys are flying into the human)... soon as i fix those problems it will be ready to go. I have done some 1080p test renders and it is looking sweet!

here is an unfinished test render for you to check out, 720P! h264

Very nice comp, the tracking is done very well...(syntheyes?)

keep up the cool works!

It's very nice, but the colors are a bit flashy for my taste and the spines are too sharp, they don't composite well.

Yeah, those saturated, over the top colors are exactly the opposite of every grading sample Concrete has shown here :-) Colors are fine for me, the sharper-than-man spines feel fine too, as they are a supernatural "weapon" or "defense mechanism" against those evil butterflies? :-) Nice job all around. I only saw a couple of blown spots on the man's forehead, but they don't interfere with the overall look or feel.

the colors are more of a "commercial" look.. i also usually stick with the desaturated colors/brownish/blueish type of timing myself... but I wanted to really make this one "pop".

i'll post up a green screen raw file for your reference as well...

RED = perfect tracking + perfect stabilizing + perfect keying + perfect colors + perfect renditions of lighting + perfect low light abilities = perfect camera. We just shot a whole sequence at night with no lighting under sodium vapor, just to push the camera to it's limits, using T2.2 arris... on any other hd camera that would have looked horrible. On red it looks amazing... we will hopefully get that cut together and post it up.

Perhaps a VFX/CGI category should be created. Inspiring to see people out there 'getting it done'. Awesome [version 1] effort.
