  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

VFX on RED

Eric, this is a great reel with great compositings. How did you damage the buildings so realisticly? My experience with the RED for VFX is very positiv too. Since photos and the RED footage are shoot in RGB colors color matching is very easy.

Hi Eric . Great Job.

I have some question not as DOP.
1. In post production did you use 4K , or you get HD , if 4K , why you need sow big resolution ?
2. What about CC , in what step , and in what program did you done CC job . Did you work with LOG DPX files ?

Thanks for your responses

Short answer to the question, "how did I damage the buildings?" ... lots of coffee and late nights.

In regards to the the process questions. Both projects were shot in various resolutions from 4k to 2k. Primarily making the adjustments only to account for frame rate changes, but sticking mostly in 4k to preserve the fantastic depth of field.

In order to keep myself open to changing my mind at any stage, I did an initial "one light" color correction in Red Cine and Alert (for sound). This step was mostly to make sure my blacks were rich and my flesh-tones felt good. Then, I rendered out the files to 1080p PhotoJPEG for compositing. The final color correction is done after all of the compositing layers are built to tie the whole piece together in After Effects.

Thanks for the kind words. I look forward to posting more footage from both projects.
