just wondering what the strange line of compression is going on in this image, if you look at it full size you will see what I am talking about around the chest area of the girl...

build 15 RELEASE, REDCINE 3.12 export as tiff and saved as a jpg for viewing here

tryig to make stills for the client and this is what I ran into on all the frames around this point in the footage...notice the shadow from the guys head is cut off weird too.....I don't get it. what is going on?

a little more visible...

This was build 15 right?

I could be wrong, but this sounds vaguely familiar. I think some people overcame it by exporting to DPX instead of tiffs, or it was fixed with a later build...16? I'd look it up but the forum search utility is so bad.

Obin, are you talking about the spots on the guy's bathing suit and hand/upper body?

If he is, that looks to me like an optical issue to me -- dirty lens, filter, OLPF. Could be some OLPF flare or other internal flaring in the optical path. I guess I want to see it in motion.

It looks like the half frame compression thing that was happening early on. The noise characteristics change on the top half of the frame. You can see it's a straight line through both the mother and father's chests.

it is the half height of sensor mystery... the upper half is more noisy then the lower half right?

OK, I guess I should zoom in and look at it full rez...

Yeah, that's strange, looks like a split frame issue of some kind. It's not just the noise that differs between the two halves, but the body parts and shadows don't even line up. It looks like halves from two different frames or instances in time.

exactly what I am thinking. very weird, and not acceptable for Still grabs from footage...:(

anyone have an answer as to what this really is? Jarred? Red? I would just like to know how to avoid this in the future as much as I can, it's pretty ugly....

all, make sure you look at it full res...or you will not see it...

This looks like a wonky 1/2 res debayer where half the frame has "Art's Evil Tree" artifact.

I've had had of frames like this from pre16 shoots, but a full res debayer solved the problem for me in the past. If you did a full debayer I'd be extremely interested in seeing the original .r3d as I've not been able to reproduce that artifacting from my footage at full res.

cheers,

jt

Went back and checked randomly at least 30 tiffs of the same configuration and nothing.
If you redo this frame does it perform the same?
what where your display settings in redcine?
try to reset with the tool/ uninstall and delete all redcine folders then reinstall redcine and redo.
which filter and qualety where you using?

never had this(that I could see) on 60 other "stills" I pulled that is why I was concerned about it, it's like the camera did not like the content of this frame while recording.....

Joe you have the same issue? Did not know you own a RED...
