  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hello!
I have a very long clip of 1:30h. Trying to convert it for Final Cut every program I try crashes. RedAlert, Redcine, Clipfinder, FinalCut.
Does anyone has a suggestion? Or knows a way to divide the clip before downsampling? How to get it into FinalCut?
Thanks! Henning. :emote_headwall:

where are located,
Im very curious to see if RedCineX can do it with REDrocket.
If your anywhere in socal

Ill do it no charge im just very curious to see what it does.

if your far away
best of luck.

Work with the R3D's

Work with the R3D's

What system are you working on and what are its specs?

If you can, I would try bringing in the multiple r3d's for that clip into After Effects and render it out from there. That might help breakup the clip into more bite size increments as well as give you some good processing power to get the clip rendered.

If the clip crashes consistently at a given place, you may have a corrupt frame.

The other segments should be good, though.

And RedRocket very often (that is not: allways) transcodes the rest of the clip right - if yu have access to a rocket...

I recently output a 65min clip to Pro Res from RedcineX [221] without any problems - it did take a long time though... so it might be a corrupt frame as Gunleik suggests

I shoot live shows with up to 7 Reds. Come home with 7 x 90 minute R3Ds all the time.

I always use the Red Rocket. Used to use Rocket Cine X and now use Red Cine X. Works great 100% of the time. I would never try to go in through Log & Transfer, I prefer making my QuickTimes quickly and consistently and then let FCP do what it does best.

L&T was never a good solution for R3D's. It's basically a solution that conforms to FCS's other ingest solutions, but was never a good solution with red material IMHO...

Here's a thought - for some unexplained reason I sometimes come across an R3D that crashes RCX. The only way I could run it through was to use an older version of RCX or use Rocket Cine X.

Nothing to do with long files, just a random thing.

Haven't experienced it lately so maybe the latest version of RCX changed something. If you aren't running it you should give it a try.
