Feature request, We are shooting quite a bit of vertical footage and wanted to know if there's any way that the Playback window and controls could be displayed vertically when working on the footage.

It would be great for those working and editing vertical footage. Any chance of this happening?

Another vote.

One thing to note about cameras that go beyond (like RED 4K) the common resolution of the time is that they are most often initially used in places like museums, entertainment venues, trade shows, promotional campaigns, etc. . Since they are almost by definition looking for something that stands out - vertical orientation is often used.

For those of us that shoot a lot of stock footage the vertical window would be great.

Deanan,

I'll add my vote - as we do a lot of vertical footage...

Thanks Clark and Mike,

Seems like it would make life easier in REDCineX for working with the vertical footage we're shooting.

Will work on the footage as soon as possible Clark and get it to you,

Best,
Frazier

Wow, very good news indeed. Thanks Deanan.

Speaking of vertical sequence in FCP, how complicated is that? Last time I imported an vertical file that I exported as ProRes 4444 from Photoshop CS4, I received an codec error. Was it because it was 1080 X 1920, instead of 1920 X 1080?

I light grade in redcinex and export... The do a custom vertical sequence in fcp.... Works fine for me.

I've been light grading in Red CineX and exporting the footage, what's the settings for the custom vertical sequence in Final Cut?

Thanks Christopher. Doing some verticals just now and working to figure it out properly.

On a two monitor system can you drag the clip window to the second monitor and rotate the monitor?

Yes, I tried that, it works ok but would be nice to be able to use the mouse easily to control playback start stop.

:-) I was watching frazier trying to do some color grading on these shots with a rotated monitor and he was having trouble making menu selections and such.

I told him "you just have to start thinking in reverse when moving the mouse".

It is a lot easier to say than do - he handed me the mouse and I had more trouble than he did. It's kind of a bitch.

Vertical footage in RED CineX Update?

Anything coming soon, I'm doing quite a bit of vertical footage now.

Would help us all who do vertical footage greatly, is it something really hard to do???

It's not really hard but it's a matter of time and we have to balance that with all the other requests and spending time on speed/stability.

If you rotate your mouse 90 degrees and get used to the buttons it is quiet doabale actually.....
