Yes sir. You have to enable "Record varispeed audio in separate WAV file" under MENU->SETTINGS->RECORDING->MODE

Not always easy to do, I´m shooting a lot of slow mo where I have to hike with my gear in lots of snow. Then I want as small and light setup as possible and not having to deal with an external recorder.
But on bigger productions it´s of course best with your approach Marc

Either way recording in camera as a backup is ideal, which requires varispeed enabled above 2x project time base.
