Well done Cail. Will try to check it out in Brisbane.

Hi Cail

I just watched the trailer on the Apple site and while I really like the look of the film (that second shot round the bend in the river is wonderful) I was wondering why the compression is so bad? I mean the blacks are really noisy and it looks quite badly deinterlaced.

It seems a lot of the indie films on the Apple site seem to suffer this problem and i was just wondering why seeing as the source material is clearly fine.

You can compare to our encode at www.vandiemensland-themovie.com - it has to do with Apple's encoding profile, not really sure why it happens though. Shouldn't be any deinterlacing going on though...

Cail, had a look and seems about the same as the Apple one?

There seems to be a lot of noise present, especially about 31" in. Was that there in the source r3d's?

Really not trying to criticize, I'm just seeing a lot of Red stuff on the web where noise seems to stand out and was wondering to myself why?

I didn't really see much noise... the only thing I saw at 31 seconds in is rain (at least that's what it looks like to me).

The "noise" at 31s is rain.

Yep, my bad.

Seeing this on the big screen might help my poor vision - any plans to show it in London soon?
