  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

VAN DIEMEN is ignoring request to return our lens

There was once a guy named "The Hammer". The Hammer worked for a collection agency. If you owed the agency money he would go to your house, smash your car with his maul and then he'd go to your front door to politely tell you "This won't happen again if you pay your bill to Agency XYZ". He was successful in encouraging prompt payment.

NIGHTMARE.....NIGHTMARE....NIGHTMARE....and keeps getting worse!!

My partner finally found an associate who will be traveling to Surrey and requested to have them retrieve the lens and pay via Banker's cheque or cashier's cheque, Van Diemen has declined that as a viable option, stating we have to wait 2 weeks before they can release the lens.* A Bank's cheque is a guarantee of the*funds availability*and that the cheque will not bounce!!

But leave it to Van Diemen to complicate it!*

FURTHERMORE, they are complicating*our attempt to pay*cash stating they have to meet bank regulations, "to prevent Money Laundering attempts." (email, June 14, 2021)

WTF!!!!*

This has been the worst experience I've had with any company. No comparison by any means. I have sent lenses to Russia, Ukraine and Japan for servicing but never experience so much stressed as with Van Diemen.

They refuse to remove $2k USD for shoddy workmanship. They lied about the time frame and refused to every acknowledge they did anything wrong.

If you don't live local or don't have the ability to walk into their shop, then my advice is to avoid Van Diemen at all costs.

If you ship from overseas, Van Diemen will be super strict about the amount you put on the Customs document to avoid paying local duties, but when they send the lens back, they will put the full amount, so the customer has to pay the duties! WTF!

Unbelievable! AVOID VAN DIEMEN if you cherish your health!

I don't like at all what and how you write about Christopher. I have done business with him myself and also visited him in 2019 to discuss a rehousing project with him. He is a fine person and anything but a gangster!!

I really have to wonder what you write about customs clearance. I haven't come across anything this stupid in a long time. Christopher doesn't have to pay any tax at all as it's not his property! You, on the other hand, evade taxes if you do not declare the correct amount. Something you should clarify with your tax office!

You should be aware of what it means to do business outside of the US! Actually you would have to apply for an "outward processing" before you do something like a rehousing in England. That takes a lot of time and money and time. Christopher didn't want to save money, he just wanted to make it easier for YOU!!

If you haven't got your optics back and no one has reached you yet, send me a message.

Slightly off-centre. When it comes to scratches on a lens element, there may be a practical limit to how much in the way of a scratch that can be polished out before the figure of the element is altered with bad effect. Other folk well versed in optical engineering will hopefully comment. If the deepest scratch remained then that may be the reason.
