Does any have an idea of $ value of a low serial# (<450) 'unexecuted' RedOne camera? Also what would be fair price for common Red accessories?

Body Only:
Retail price, minus sales tax.

Batteries are worth 25% of retail price if used.
Hard Drives are worth 25% of retail price if used.
cables are worth 25% of retail price if used
EVF worth 100% of retail price, no sales tax.
Metal hardware parts about 50% of retail price.
CF Cards: 50% to 70% of current retail price.

Of course, people are prone to speculating value on things without being realistic. These are what I call Realistic Estimates - not less than retail for the body because you are probably MX eligible now (if not already) instead of waiting, you can trade the body in when it ships towards an Epic, and you can make a lot of good use of the camera system NOW if you know how to get clients or already have clients. Why is it not worth more than retail? Because it's a used piece of camera equipment, any speculation is exactly that: Speculation.

Hi David,

actually just realized that this is "unexecuted" and so it is for the sale value of a Red one for the trade in for the Epic-X in stage 3, (forgive the miss understanding of my PM).

It has surely a better value then say, serial 7000, as the wait for the delivery of the Epic-X form this lower serial will be faster, but as I have seen no so much more, since many times Jim has said that this time around shipping will happen in a much better organized and faster way then it did with the original Red One.

Nonetheless will hold some better value for those that wish to be in the early shipment of their Epic-X in stage3.

Ultimately the value of anything is what someone is willing to pay. But, IMHO, the prices you're listing seem pretty low... a cable in full working order but out of it's package has lost 75% of it's value? If that were the case, why would anyone buy one new?

I think he meant that they should be discounted 25%, not that they would retain only 25% of their value.

No - I mean it should hold 25% of the retail value.

Something like a cable, Red Brick Battery, Red Battery Plate, or Red Drive with a high failure rate that is out of warranty is worth only 25%-33% of the retail value.

Why? I rely on the camera for my livelihood. If I buy a Used Cable and it fails on a professional shoot, and I don't have a backup cable - then I've just potentially lost a client for life - and at the very minimum I have to burn my own time and resources getting one in an emergency situation. If I'm anywhere away from a major metropolitan area (cue banjo music) then it might be a while before the replacement cable (or part's) deliverance...

I'll take a chance on buying someone's used cable (that we have no way of measuring usage or hours on other than visual inspection) at 25% of cost because at the price it makes sense to buy a brand new one as a backup cable. Same goes for hard drives, and my latest nemesis Red Brick Batteries.

Although - it's surprising how much one can learn about proper maintenance of Red Brick Batteries just by RTFM. Oftentimes when a battery comes off the camera it is quite hot. AC's want to know - Durrrr, why won't it charge? It's because the thermal sensor in the battery wants you to let it cool off before you put it on the charger... These batteries do best in nice cool air conditioned rooms.

The Red Body on the other hand - you can measure the hours of usage, you can do a very complete visual and functional examination, and if the thing hasn't been treated like an anvil, and all the user settings get reflashed to factory default at the start of any show - you can generally count on it not to crap out.

People generally treat Rental gear like SHIT. Just something to consider when purchasing used accessories. Buyer beware... However my affection for the Red One camera grows warmer every day.

Perhaps you've successfully purchased accessories for 25% of their original value. If you have, I'd love to know that for a fact.

My observations on the "Jobs/Equipment for Hire" is that people generally ask for 25-35% less than retail for used items.

Red's distribution issues with some new products have caused used prices to remain higher than they would compared to other electronic/computer items in the industry. This perhaps serves them well as they claim the high used value of their products but doesn't serve new users well at all.

I guess you didn't read my post. What is any car worth when you drive it off the lot? What are clothes worth after you wear them? What is a computer worth a month after you've used it?

Wear and tear accounts for cost reduction. Who drives the cost of used accessories? People who want to purchase them. That's all I'm gonna say on this topic.
