By way of update - RED was quick to get me sorted out. They overnighted my old camera back to RED HQ, and issued a warranty replacement which was overnighted to me. All told it was 8 days from when I reported the issue to when I had my replacement camera. I'd say that's quite good. While I haven't tested out the replacement camera, I have no reason to believe it will be a second problematic unit. If I continue to see this issue, I'll try to dig down into what causes it, and report back here. Or if everything looks good, I'll report that as well.
