  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

V mount / RED Batteries?

Will the RED batteries work on any V mount?

Re: I want to get a V mount battery belt and run RED batteries of it to power my camera.

V mount is standard. But you need to be sure the RED batteries provide the ideal power output for your application. What camera do you want to power with the RED bricks and why?
 
Any of the v-mount batteries will work but they need to be 140ah batts to handle the load of the RED.

Well, the RED Bricks are V-mounts but they could be used to power any other v-mount equipment.

I've used the IDX V-mount adaptor Box with 2 IDX Litium Ion NP batteries 70ah each to power the RED without any problem, however the RED doesn't "talk" to the NP batts like it does the RED bricks.

A generic v mount plate will work, provided it's wired properly to the right LEMO plug for connecting to the RED. If you want the camera to report battery status info, the plate will need to be equipped with the proper magnet mechanism.
 
Why not just use the belt clip battery mount available from RED? Using any other system currently available will not send battery status info to the camera.

Only problem with that, Mitch, is that it limits you to the one battery re-boot scenario. Wouldn't it be cool to have a belt that you could clip, say, 4 bricks to, and then hot swap them as necessary? That way you could use the same battery kit for on board or belt operation. Just a thought.
 
I don't think I'd ever want to walk around with four bricks strapped to my waist.

Wouldn't be any worse than my Cine 60 30/14v belt. That's how I stay in shape! Anyway, I suppose two would do it, as long as you could swap out the low one. If I couldn't afford to reboot and I was working off the shoulder, a hot swapping belt option would seem to be better then mounting that dual battery thing on the camera, wouldn't it?

Is that plate that RED sells a belt clip?!?! I can't tell from the photo. If so, that's a great solution.

V-lock is acceptable but I would recommend using the Anton Bauer Gold Mount with a T-bracket and some DIONIX 90s.

I'm not a fan of v-lock recently, it's reliability has failed on a few high profiled spots. In Reds defense it is being corrected with the Sound Board Upgrade.

We'll see....
