Hey all, this is a bit of a poll question. I'm trying to decide between a more capable 4 position (VL-4s) or smaller 2 position (VL2S-plus) charger for production use. I will be doing music video projects and travelling with a minimal kit for shooting b roll on the road. the music videos may involve higher capacity 140WH batteries for powering 1-2 LED ballasts, but i still tend to work lighter and faster.

for what i'm doing , having a 2 position charger will be useful for travel, but at the moment i can also buy a used 4-position at a really good price. do people find that it's easier to manage having say, 2 x 2 position chargers in case they want to leave one at home, or is the form factor of the 4 position just as convenient? i'm just looking at the specs, and at 7lbs i could even get 3 2 way chargers for the weight.

sorry if this is a difficult question to answer definitely, i'm just looking to take people's experience into consideration before making a final decision.

Swings & roundabouts. A single 4-way charger is a single point of failure, but obviously more compact and less weight than two 2-ways.

It's possible two 2-ways will charge batteries faster than a single 4-way.

I agree with Eric. With 2 chargers you'll have:

(1) Flexibility
(2) Simultaneous charging-Faster charging
(3) Backup in case of failure

awesome, that's a great consideration about the redundancy and flexibility of 2 chargers. thanks you guys!

The Paglink travel chargers are tiny, lightweight and pretty cheap too, although not as fast charging. Plus you can stack 2 Paglinks on each, and fully charge them in 7hrs and not have to get up in the middle of the night to swap batteries.
