Ever since the Red 1 days my V mount for some reason can't hold power for nothing. I sent it back to Red when they were upgrading them but still the same. Any little twitch and the Epic powers off. So my question is when I receive my side handle and have a red volt on board will the Epic switch to it or shut down? I know there has to be others with the same problem and I don't know wether to dump this back and purchase a different brand or try the side handle power for back up.

Three little letters.

I D X

There is a good reason everyone uses that plate.

Did you check if the lemo-connector is screwed together tightly enough?
I recently had a similar problem (V-Mount loosing power upon moving or shaking the cable/camera just a little bit). First I credited the cable as the error-source since it was sometimes pretty tight bent during set-action but I found out that it was just because the lemo-connector was not screwed tight enough together (just tightening it by hand without proper tools did not work). By using 2 lever keys and tightening the connector again (needed pretty much pressure) I was able to fix it -> never lost power since that point again. Hope you can follow the procedure (but doesn't mean it has to be the same issue on your problem)...

Thanks David, I'll check it out. Do you have a link that has the IDX w/red power?

Yes Pete, I've been having this problem since day 1. At least now it's only 10 second boot time so it's not that bad but still I lost power 3 times yesterday. It's 100% mount.

Not sure if your problem is the same but I found that on red vmount plates if I used a wooden clothes peg to jam the release button from closing( ie releasing the batt) the intermittent disconnection problem went away. Also check that the battery contacts are clean and have no arcing damage.

I used to wrap a strip of 2" black gaffe tape all the way around the battery and plate, and it was basically bulletproof. If you fold the ends of the tape, it makes it easy to peel back during battery changes. I would often have the same piece of tape on there for several days of shooting.

I use SWIT batteries with IDX plates.

I have found this is a wonderful combo.

The SWIT batteries break in two for easy airline travel.
