Hey guys, I'm ready to buy some V-mount batteries but I had a few questions.

Can I attach the battery directly to the RED or do I need to buy a Mount? With a mount how can I keep my REDmote attached?

I'm looking for an affordable solution. Any information or links would be amazing.

You need a mount; as far as I'm aware, the most "official" cost-effective method is to get the DSMC Battery Belt from RED ($325), which doesn't mount the camera, so you'd have to "attach it to your belt" or do something like that (fanny pack or backpack... or mount it on your rods somehow?). There are cheaper non-official methods, like using the p-tap off a V-mount battery, that are like $125 (p-tap to 4pin lemo connector), and again, they don't mount to the camera. In the case of the Battery Belt or P-tap method, you can still connect the REDmote to the back of the brain.

The other method is a quick plate with v-mount and a few different places have them (WoodenCamera, CinemaOxide, etc.) and they're about $600, give or take $100. In this case, you would NOT be able to connect the REDmote to the back of the brain, and you'd be forced to recharge it via USB-to-MiniUSB on a computer or with an outlet adapter.

It's a shame because there are some super cheap chinese v-mount/rod plates for <$40 on ebay, but they don't have the 2b/4pin lemo connector on them... I was kind of hoping someone would have a tutorial on how to make one, but I think it voids the warranty as it is not an official power method.

Lots of great info in this thread

I'm personally a huge supporter of all things Wooden Camera, can't recommend them highly enough.

There are many solutions for this, as well as threads about this topic. I'd also check out this thread that has pictures of different set ups to get an idea of the many ways to configure your Scarlet.

I've gone the Wooden Camera quickback and Global Media Pro V-mount battery route. Viewfactor also has some really great gear.

You can find used red mount set ups on the bay fairly inexpensively. Same goes for chargers and non oem batteries
