Hey guys!

Many of us are using perfectly good batteries with high quality cells and circuitry but without % communication to the camera brain.

What do you think if in future firmware releases we could set custom voltage thresholds to have the camera issue a warning or autoshutdown?

The first one (in my case 12V) for a BIG RED ON SCREEN WARNING: "LOW BATTERY"

Plus another voltage level (in my case 11V) where the camera would shut itself down automatically to preserve data integrity.

We could also use this to slow down the battery cells ageing process which usually occur due to discharging to very low voltages.
(for example setting these 2 values to 12.5 and 12V or 12.8V and 12.5V, obviously with reduced runtimes, but batteries would be useable for some additional months/years at the end of their lifecycle)

What do you guys think?

Or you could even have a box come up asking if you'd like to shut down since the power is low. Options to customize this kind of stuff will only make RED cameras better.

Yes, some of you have been asking for this for quite a while. We haven't forgotten, it is on our list of things to consider.

This would be good, the loss of the sidehandle battery was killer. I was hoping RED would come up with a micro battery for the sidehandle, but.....

It would be nice but due vigilance is a good workaround. Many third-party batteries have a check button which sets off a row of LEDs which crudely represent battery state. One poke of the button and you know well enough.

Yes please! It's a really "must have" thing when you're operating alone, or you only have a 1AC and long take (doc work)! Like warning will be enough.

Yes but LEDs are not a good way, especially under heavy loads.

Voltage is a more precise way and warnings SHOULD be implemented since it's quite easy to do it and very much needed.

Still want this.
