What is the cheapest option for using my Red bricks (or any other V-lock batteries) with the Epic?

The options I have found so far are:

a) Switronix V-type RED Battery Mount Plate w. Lemo Connector $189, plus Red 2B to 1B cable $190 = $379
The long cable involved can be either a benefit or a problem depending on use.

b) Action Products Proteus $820 + Battery module $683 = $1603
Expensive but neat.

c) Viewfactor APU-IDX battery plate = $699
Compact but not the cheapest option.

d) Red Epic backpack $1200 + Backpack Quickplate $650 = $1850
Most expensive option.

Are there currently any other options?

Is option A the cheapest current option?

Am I missing anything obvious?

Thanks.

$175 and some simple home-brew engineering. You'll need a drill press, soldering tools and some skill.

Standoffs for m4 mounting points - go to a hobby shop and buy aluminium standoffs for mounting an RC plane motor. Elegant, strong, right size. - $20 tops
Find a properly cheap V-lock plate - http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/514460479/V_Lock_Plate_or_Panasonic_JVC.html - budget $50 if you're not buying in bulk ;)
A length of appropriate cable - $5
And the Lemo connector - $100

That will semi-permanently mount you a v-lock plate to the EPIC's M4 module mounting points

Otherwise option A removes skill from the equation for only another $200 :) , but as noted you'll need to invent some way of attaching it.

Just an FYI, next week we will have out our EPIC plate. We are also working with a few manufacturers where our plates will be OEM on their DSMC mounts. Should see that stuff in about two weeks. Contact with any questions...

Vincent, thanks for that info. A few questions...

Will it be available from Creative Video Productions UK or only from Abel ?

How will it attach to the Epic? Bolt on the back or fit to rails?

What is the expected price?

Thanks.

Bebop make a nice power unit for V lock and allows battery change with out powerring down. Depends on how you want to mount it.

The Swit plate is fine but the IDX plate better built IMO. Perfectly fine to build your own.

There will not be an exclusive arrangement with this product. CVP should have it up shortly before/after its release. The plate is our new version of our V-mount. it will also have 2 P-taps. It will directly attach to the RED rail mount, but for DSMC a number of manufacturers have contacted us to supply the plates to them. They are making the necessary hardware to attach to the DSMC system. The plate alone should retail for $250-$299

Looking at the list in the OP, this solution is actually the least expensive:

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...attery-Plate-Adapter-and-Pin-Guard&highlight=

And as Curran stated earlier, if you go with Switronix you'll still need a way to mount the plate, which makes it more expensive.

Jason, thanks for the link (and I got your PM).

But this is just a means to attach a battery mount to the Epic, isn't it?

So I would still need to buy the V-lock mount itself, whether it is the Switronix (for $189) or the Red Quickplate (for $500).

Yes, It is a means to attach a battery mount to the Epic. Red V-lock battery mounts are on sale on this forum for well below $189. The Switronix v-lock mount is not compatible with CinemaOxide. The CinemaOxide battery plates are available immediately (no backorder)

This is apples and oranges. It's not an intermediary, mechanical mount, its a V-mount for a electrical battery connection.

Our V-mount plate will have the direct LEMO connection into the EPIC. You will not need a 2B to 1B cable adapter from RED(additional $190). It will be available in 10" and 20" versions. As for mounting, their will be(if not already) a bunch of mountings out there. If I'm correct, the Cinema Oxide plate only has a mounting for the RED plate which would then require the 2B to 1B cable, leaving you with a lot of cable slack. I could be wrong. Maybe someone who has it can confirm. If so, maybe CO would consider adding the mounting holes for A/B and V-mt(non RED).

If you already have a RED quickplate, you can remove the 2b V Mount plate, and attach our new plate(with EPIC LEMO) directly to it. The RED quickplate has additional mounting holes for the "4 rectangle" screw pattern that we and IDX use, as well as the hole arrangement for A/B.

As for stock status, I never said a couple of weeks. I said next week(meaning Monday). Contact your local dealer to get one.

Is there some mounting holes if i want to custom mount the plate on rails? Those 4 holes in the middle of the plate?

It's a standard v-mount hole arrangement used on all v-mount plates(except Red). It would mount directly to the RED quickplate(for rail use) once you remove the red plate.

The other options are many 3rd party manufactures are making the scarlet/epic mount plates. So far, almost all would include a v-mount hole arrangement(this one), a RED arrangement(3 holes on each side) and an A/B arrangement.

Hey Vinny,

Not to be a stickler, don't you need to be a RED sponsor to advertise here.
