  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Utah

If you are planning to come down on Thursday, please RSVP, either through this thread or PM me. I just want to have an approximate count.

I'll be in Utah for a while in early to mid April - shooting in southern and central Utah, then a few days in the Provo/Salt Lake area. It would be great to hook up with your Utah RED posse to compare notes and talk over RED subjects.

Email me: steve at cut4.tv

Very shortly I'll be moving my studio from the California Central Coast to the mountains of southwest Utah. Then I'll be producing/directing a really cool new television series. I'll naturally be looking to network with hybrid-style Red camera shooters and editors who are based in Utah, southern Nevada, northern Arizona, and western Colorado. If you live in those areas, work with Red cameras in a mobile hybrid style, and want to network, please email me at: steve (at) cut4 (dot) tv

I'll still be doing my long-travel work around the world too...but flying for that out of Las Vegas now instead of Los Angeles.

Fun stuff ahead...

hey Steve,

where in Utah are you going to be based? My brother is up in Ritchfield, UT, and always has a spare room for me, if you guys need any help.

My new studio will be in the mountains of southwest Utah, between St George and Cedar City. I don't seek walk-in customer traffic for my studios, because they're setup to service mostly my own productions. So for equipment security reasons, I never divulge online the exact studio location - the same as I didn't with my Central Coast studio location, etc. When I produce big projects and need larger studio or edit bay space I simply go to L.A. or sometimes Las Vegas and rent the space I need for those projects. Then I go right back to my rural facilities where I can enjoy my lifestyle and work :)

We'll be doing a lot of outdoor mobile production work in Utah and the surrounding states. We'll need some help from time to time, so drop me an email, and tell me about your experience and skills. If you're new to the business, no problem, I bring in production assistants regularly to work with us.

Cave in the mountains of east Provo? Where did you get that? :) My home is in the South East corner of Provo, as in about four minutes from downtown Provo.

However, we will probably have the camera set up at our office on University Parkway in Orem as soon as it arrives. And yes, party at our office! Around Sept 15th according to the schedule.

RSVP if you are interested in coming to play. And th camera will be available for rent.

Rivetal, Inc.

Jeremy, that office is about two minutes from mine. I'd love to come see the Epic. Mine #683 shouldn't be far behind.

I do believe we're first in line in Utah again. And we'll be repeating our party from 2007, only this time it will be EPIC!

Gibby! Welcome to Utah, that's great news. Do come visit next time you have to drive north.

Stupid me. I sent that last message before I realized that the thread was three years old. I'd still like to join in. John Farr is about the only other Utah Red dude that I regularly talk to.

Cheers,

Thanks Jeremy! I was born in Utah (but raised in California) then also graduated from college in Utah - so being based in Utah is a natural progression for me.

Now that I'm based in Utah its safe to say that you'll be the second person in Utah to have an Epic :) You should still have your Epic party though - and hopefully my production schedule will give me the time to come to it with one of my Epic cameras.

I'll look forward to coming up to the SLC/Provo areas sometime in the near future to meet other Red camera users. Networking is the core of my business model...

Steve, I'm only half a block off I-15 in Orem. you're welcome anytime.

Dang! So much for that claim to fame. :) No worries, though, if I had to lose out on my #1 spot to somebody...

I guess I'll have to modify my claim to first in Northern Utah.

This is good to know, since it looks like I might be in that neck of the woods shooting sometime in September. Hopefully our schedules align.

Very cool Steve...

Sometime soon I'll email you my new contact info. When you're headed this way let me know. We'll have you over for dinner, compare Red notes, and maybe go out and shoot some really cool stock footage. Clustered closely around my home base now are 5 national parks, 7 National Monuments, and 2 National Recreation Areas.

I'm arranging my schedule to be here for most of September and October. IMO those two Autumn months are the finest months for outdoor production in the southern Rockies and desert southwest.

Steve, I'm am very involved in stock production as well. We should talk shop sometime. I guess Red user is a good place, but I'm not sure there is a ton of stock chatter going on here. I saw you are working with Artbeats, they are one of my resellers as well.

Cheers.

Very cool Mark. Yes, Artbeats is one of my stock representatives. As you know, they're very good at what they do. On that link in my signature block below there are about 41 pages (700 clips) of Red camera stock footage. A fair amount of those clips were shot in southern Utah - Zion, Bryce, bison, river rafting, etc. Over the years since the late '70's I've shot a ton of footage in Utah and the rest of the Intermountain West. Its always been home to me :)

I see you're in Orem. I get up there fairly often. Lets stay in touch via email. Mine is: steve (at) cut4 (dot) tv

The rest of you Utah Red Users, same thing - keep in touch via email. I'll be changing to a 435 area code mobile phone shortly and I'll email you guys that number too.

Give me a shout while you're here (Both Steve's). We should arrange a big RED event.

Thanks Steve - kinda like "The Three Amigos", but in this case "The Three Steve Amigos"! Its time consuming to plan and pull off a big Red event, but what may be cool is an informal get-together where we could check over new Red equipment, talk about ideas on ways of using it, and basically do some good old-fashioned networking.
