Hey, just a quick question and advice required on using something like the nuclues m setup (the hand grips in particular) with something like the movi pro or ronin 2. I really like the idea of using something like the grips with the nucleus to control the focus on a gimbal setup, however the movi ring and similar ronin setup doesnt have the traditional hand grips...

has anyone fitted the grips via adapter (like the one in the link below)? or is there another setup i should consider if i was to go down this route... If im sometimes shooting fashion and there is no budget for a focus puller id like the option to control this myself....

thanks in advance

Will, if you go with the Teradek RTmotion system, you can buy a thumbwheel that you can attach to the ring.

i like the idea of having the grips to use when using a shoulder rig too.... thanks for mentioning the rt setup though!

You can switch to using a cinemilled universal mount on their cross bar. Then attach the grips to that.

I use the nucleus m setup with tiltas rosettes and it works perfect on a ronin. Totally love it and I would say the nucleus m is the best money I have spent in a long time.

I mounted the nucleus-M and handles to our Movi last week for a shoot on Las Vegas Blvd. Worked out pretty well except for the odd time when the FF would move on its own during a shot. I do wish Tilta made thumb wheels. I hate the handles. So bulky and the furthest thing from ergonomic.

that looks exactly what i am wanting, could you let me know the following info, sorry to be a pain

the negatives in more detail, anything that really stood out as shitty in this setup,

what did you have connected to the ctrl port? the stop start of the tilta or the movi?

would you still buy the nucleus setup given the chance to go back,

how heavy is the setup overall and is the ready rig really necessary or just for long takes...

thanks in advance

I personally do not like having to mount the additional handles to the Movi ring, Thumbwheels are really needed for this setup, Just like the Teradek RT.
Because the handles need to mount "offset" either out to the sides or towards the rear of the rig, like mine, it makes holding the rig really awkward and front heavy when not using a ready rig or other support.
During a few takes the ff did randomly scatter adjust focus for a few seconds then back to where it was. That really annoys me but in the end, we get what we pay for. If I could go back, I would of skipped the nucleus kickstarter campaign (which was an absolute joke) and went straight for what works, whats already on the market and what people trust. I have heard nothing but good reviews from the Teradek RT as well as my limited experience with it has been nothing but amazing. The nucleus on the other hand....not so much. One other thing worth noting is the Nucleus' inability to remember last calibration after power down. I shoot with a set of Sigma Art lenses with 3D printed Follow focus gears so each time I power up its a challenge to calibrate the FF due to the lack of hard stops like traditional cine lenses. With that said, going with the Teradek RT would of made even more sense since with the RT, I can control EF lenses internal focus without the use of a FF motor.
Connected to the control port of the RED from the handle was a cable to allow REC Start/Stop. Although, in true Tilta fashion. It randomly stopped working halfway through our shoot and didn't come back.
If your short on funds, the nucleus is a decent option for a full follow focus "kit". But with that said, I ALWAYS bring my Cinegears ff as a backup for the sole reason that I don't trust the nucleus to work for a full day without issue. There is always something that seems to go wrong.
Weight wise, The rig is HEAVY. If your flying a full kit....RED+lens+mattebox+FF+wireless video+monitor etc. The rig ends up being, IMO, too heavy to operate without support. I also just don't trust the Tilta handles to hold up the weight of the full rig.
Hope that helps a bit.

thanks cameron really really useful info! will look into the terradek setup!

So ive spent the evening researching a bit more, the Teradek setup does look great, especially as im not too interested in the hand unit right now and mainly for the gimbal use and i will mainly be using ef lenses.... the information im finding however is a little sparse so any info would be great on what i would need to use that setup on my scarlet-w

am i right in thinking i just need the following?

1 x latitude sidekick
1 x Wired Thumbwheel-S Controller

and that will all work smoothly on internal motors with say my canon 24-70 2.8

I guess then at a later date i just simply add motors and hand unit if/when i want to?

ive used fool control with the internal focus mode before and whilst it seems smoothish, you can hear the sound of the internals going a bit nuts... which wont be ideal if trying to focus whilst doing an interview etc... but i guess thats when you look at getting the ff motor.....

thanks in advance

Might be worth asking over here since they all just received their units from the group buy

I just bought the Latitude Sidekick, thumbwheel and motor to use on a MoviPro... Best piece of camera gear I have purchased in a long time. From the time I got the box to installing, balancing and using was under 20 minutes. Calibration was automotic with my Canon CN-E's. Super quiet and thumbwheel is just the right amount of throw for the application.

Highly recommend the Teradek product...

I’m looking for something like this for my Ronin 2. Could you provide the name of the mount you used?
